Another one that impressed me today was Watkins I alway liked his instincts and physicality. And i think he answered all the athletic questions people had.

Watkins
5-11 194
Arm length 30 5 / 8
10 yrds 1.50
40 yrds 4.41
Bench 22 reps

Verrett
5-9 189
Arm length 30 5 / 8
10 yrds 1.47
40 yrds 4.38
Bench /

Watkins plays nickel and safety. I think he could be the best out of the 3 Florida Gator CB``s.

I'm not positive Verret will be there @ 30. Let's say Gilbert goes top 12, and Denmark goes somewhere between 13 and the Bengals at 24, I think it's very possible that another CB goes between 25-30.

The Niners are hopefully going to have a shot at either Verret or Fuller, with fall back Options of Joyner and Roby (if they target CB @30).

Verret is only an inch taller than Joyner, but Joyner speed isn't tthat great. I know the combine isn't everything, but if they take a diminutive DB, I'd hope the DB has good to great speed.

autocorrect?
Don't know if someone posted but 49ers interviewed 60 players at combine. Anyone know who besides Cooks, Pryor, and Huff?
I've always been a fan of drafting Roby and Watkins as insurance. Watkins can play nickel and Roby eventually boundary.

That's why since the draft is loaded with cornerbacks, I could see them taking another one in the middle rounds, someone they could develop as a potential starter on the outside. That said, I think Verrett could hang on the outside with most receivers, how many truly BIG receivers do you run into normally?

I agree. Like D Sanders said today at the combine,"all ya gotta do is knock the ball away or whack their arms. Smaller guys get in trouble trying to intercept." But at days end, Verrett s/b covering slot receiver.

This. 39 inches is 39 inches, period.

This back-and-forth is getting ridiculous. The "39 measurement is the distance between STANDING REACH (i.e., the highest point the player can reach vertically while standing on the ground with their arm extended) and the highest point they can reach while leaping vertically in the air. With the same leaping ability, but presumably a longer reach, the taller player should be able to cover a somewhat larger spatial radius, for what that's worth.

Seriously. People this how Crabtree's catch radius is near equal to Calvin Johnson's. Crabtree has exceptional leaping ability plus arms that are standard of someone who is 6'6" and Calvin has arms of something who 6'4" and his own exceptional leaping ability. Crabtree's standing reach is near just 2.5 inches shorter than Calvin's (If I do my math correctly)

I can't believe people are still bantering about how they measure vertical jumps.....
Now we only have 10+ weeks to analyze the combine until draft day...smh @ long break.

Do not know if anybody has seen this possible questions the 49ers might ask at the combine

The NFL Scouting Combine is a whirlwind for most players. They bounce from drills to medical evaluations to the podium, and they fit in team interviews for any clubs that are interested.

Some people question the interview portion of the combine because players can be prepped and coached to answer many of the question that may be asked. Well, the same can be said for a job interview, but when was the last time anyone got a job without one.

The San Francisco 49ers recently shared a sampling of the questions they might ask players in one of the 60 interviews the team can conduct at the combine.

1. What about your game will make an NFL team better?

2. Who is the first person you would call if you had a football problem?

3. Who is the first person you would call if you needed help making a decision?

4. What was your first job?

5. What goes through your mind once a play is finished, to when you hear the play call, to the line of scrimmage, all the way through the whistle?

6. How do you feel you learn most effectively?

7. What motivates you to play football?

8. Can you describe your relationships with your family, coaches and teammates?

9. What do you want to achieve as an NFL player?

10. What do you want to achieve outside the NFL?

I'm really wondering if in the next few weeks we're going to get a flood of names from the combine that we haven't seen yet, especially with all of our beat writers covering Harbaughgate.... I find it a little odd that as of the day after the combine we're only aware of the team meeting with 2 prospects there and both of them play Safety.

Will do a review from my vantage point of the defenders tomorrow or Friday. Watching back a lot of the combine. Will say for now that Aaron Donald may have been the most impressive person at the combine. He performed everything exceptionally, and I am sure interviewed really well.

Additional note: This draft, maybe more than any other in the recent past, has a ton of guys who don't have the size/weight measurables a team typically wants for their player, but are so talented that scouts, coaches and GMs are going to have to make a difficult call. Do we draft a guy who we normally would bypass or drop down a round or two lower because of these size/weight issues, or think that their college game translates to the pros despite the measurables? Case in point: Donald, Joyner, Cooks, Sutton, Manziel, etc. Real life example: Does a team pick Hageman, who has all the measurables, but lacks a consistent game, or a guy like Donald, who busts it on every play, but is 6'1", 290?

Joyner's 40 doesn't concern me. he plays extremely fast, his versatility is great, and he's got great awareness.
