Coby Fleener - TE Stanford

But honestly, I say no to Fleener in the 1st. We have other needs. I'd draft a WR or a CB before Fleener.

I would argue that CB looks a lot better than TE right now

1) DW is not very good. Vastly overrated on the WZ.
2) DW is leaving next year in FA.
3) We have no 6'6" target on the team with great hands like every other NFL team does.
4) Look what N.E. does with 2 TE's.

Sure we could use him. Don't kid yourself.

He's a luxury item the Niners can afford.

Agree. I just don't get the love our members have for DW. He is not that good. Fleener will flat out beat DW in camp if Fleener is on this team. A perfect player to improve our horrific third down conversions and our redzone issues. Fleener will not be a third string, he'll be 1A.
I believe from top to bottom we have the best roster in the NFL. We're in a position to draft the best player available and not reach because of need. We have so few holes we're in a great position to move up and take a player we really like as long as the price isn't too steep.

Fleener is not a luxury for us, he is a necessity. Our primary offensive weakness has been 3rd down conversions and Redzone TDs.

We have zero tight ends who can run straight forward 5 yards and do a quick square out for separation and big enough to screen the defender and make a clean catch.

DW's lack of size and Vernon's lack of ability to separate on short routes is the primary reason we don't punch it in the redzone. Most of the time Vernon scores when we are within 5 yards of the goal line is through misdirection where he's delaying or slanting from the back side.

Fleener would make us deadly in the red zone.
I dont understand the DLove relationship

I never liked the guy and when i questioned that last year on the board, people were hating on me

now Fleener comes along and people are saying Delanie is overrated

Besides Fleener isn't just a TE. He's an offensive play maker who can line-up pretty much anywhere. I don't think anyone can deny we can use as many of those as possible.

Well said.

As much as Walker is over-rated by some here, Vernon Davis is as well. Davis is a great straight line threat but his lack of agility and ability to read defenses and make quick adjustments to pressure/blitz situations is a partial reason for our lack of RZ success.

Fleener has the agility that VD does not and has the size that Walker lacks. To me, though the team needs a RG solution (Kilgore may be it), Fleener is a no-brainer if he is there at #30.

IMO, how Harbaugh views Kilgore will be evident with the first two selections in the draft. If one of those picks is a guard, we will know that Kilgore is not the answer. If Fleener is the pick along with another non-guard, we know Kilgore IS the answer. That will be the big intrigue in the upcoming draft.
harbaugh can never have too many TE's. at stanford it wasnt out of the ordinary to send out 5 of them at once. we have VD who runs like a horse but cant run very sharp routes, moss who were hoping will have some kind of impact in the redzone. thats pretty much it. fleener would be awesome to throw into the mix with these two guys. i think if hes there its a no brainer. Hill and Fleener are my two favorites based on size and speed these guys are off the charts and size and speed are two things were lacking big time. ginn is fast but tiny and he cant catch, moss is tall but lanky, VD is the only legit redzone threat we have right now and even he has issues with route running and getting separation. were taking an offensive playmaker in the first and i hope its Fleener or Hill!!!
TE is not a area of need for this team no way would I spend a first round pick on a back up TE.

While all your points may be valid, I still would like to fill a NEED over adding a luxury. We NEED other positions. At WR, do you think Moss is gonna be here 5-6 years? I say he'll be here 1-2 years. At CB we have Rogers and then its up in the air. Culliver and Brown have shown they have potential, but who knows. Plus I'm sure we all know you can never have too many CBs. If we draft Fleener I will not be pissed off..because he looks to be a very good player. I just think we have other holes to fill w/ that first round pick. We could get other TEs like Egnew later in the draft.
i like walker for is diversity we can use him all over the place in the offense but i'd much rather have fleener playing at TE

a backup TE when the niners use a ton of 2 TE sets and fleener is split out wide like a WR all the time? hes a playmaker, does it really matter if hes labeled as a TE or a WR? dude is 6'6" and runs a 4.5 at 245lbs. hes a taller, better route running version of VD. VD is awesome nut so is Fleener and both of these guys on the field at the same time would be a nightmare for defenses.
