He's a three time All-American in track at Clemson. His best track times are a 10.22 in the 100 meters and a 6.58 in the 60.

He's in the ballpark with Chris Johnson as far as speed and could run a sub-4.3 at the combine.

Check the acceleration on these runs:

Very nice!

indeed

Oh Yes pls!

So if the 49ers don't have the #8 pick, no need to talk about Spiller. And I WANT Spiller very bad. Just don't think it will happen.

I'm afraid your right on this one, I can only hope the hype machine gets fired up for other players to jump up ahead of him.

Gore just ripped two strong run defenses for 167/107 rushing yards the past two weeks. That pretty much will kill any discussions of a RB in the first round.

The Panthers drafted 2 RBs in the first round, and they can effectively utilize both. Why can't we if we improve our offensive line?

Spiller may be too explosive to pass up if he's there for us to draft. We've seen Gore breakdown this season missing three weeks, What do we do when it happens again? Trust Coffee...or Robinson? I think not. Don't automatically rule out CJ Spiller if he's there!
I think people are forgetting how Chris Johnson, despite running the fast 40-time ever and having great college numbers running and returning the ball, still went late in the 1st.

Spiller available from 10-15 is not too farfetched, considering he's smaller than Chris Johnson is.

I think Johnson suffered due to Reggie Bush performance. I believe Johnson's performance will enhance Spiller's draft position. Especially cuz this is such a copycat league.

As long as he is available when we pick I don't care, I want this kid!

I've got mixed feelings on Spiller. Besides his running and kick/punt return abilities, he could be a great slot receiver for our spread looks. A shotgun formation with Spiller and Gore on either side of Smith and Crabtree, Morgan, and Davis split wide is a match-up nightmare.

However, Spiller (just like Gore) will be severely handicapped if we don't upgrade our offensive line. If we go Raye-Gun all the time the pass protection has to improve, as well as our ability to run out of the shotgun. If at all possible I'd like to pick up Reggie Bush in FA and draft two offensive linemen in the first, with a KR/PR/Slot WR prospect in the later rounds.

Kinda disagree. I think a great back helps your o-line...just think of how bad our running game would be if Frank hadn't broken those long runs!!!!

So a guy like Spiller with his speed can stretch the defense, threaten the edge (which Frank really can't do) and possibly even make the o-line look better than it is. Add the ability of Smith to now throw the ball effectively, and a guy like Spiller looks even more attractive to this offense (serious speed coming out of the backfield).

You're right...if only we had a great back on this team...oh wait Frank Gore!

Everyone is so hung up on what Chris Johnson is doing that every guy in college who seems to have a similar game will have the same production in the NFL?

I don't think so. And I don't want to find out at the expense of one of our early-mid level first round picks since we have massive holes all over this team.

This defense will never be great until we get a stud pass rusher so we can stop scheming our pass rush. We need a guy the other team gameplans for. We have Patrick Willis already but we need a Willis who can rush the passer - our Dwight Freeney, James Harrison, Demarcus ware...so on and so forth.

We also need some big time help on the offensive line. It's just embarassing watching that unit play on 3rd and short. A good RT is a must and an OG will be needed as well...altho I think the most important part of this will be a new coach. If we don't fire our current guy I'm going to rage.

Spiller is a good kid and would be a good addition to this team at the very worst he'd be a pretty good return guy but we can get a cheaper version of spiller later in the draft while helping this team at positions where players will see the field a lot more than Spiller will.

Anyone here who thinks Spiller will make Gore look like Lendale White does in Tennessee is high.

I agree, we will go Oline and safety in the first 2 rounds after that we will look for a backup RB/KR. Then we can cut Coffee. Robinson will go nowhere because of his versatility.
I would like a better pass rusher as well, I think Brooks may prove to be that guy. Thus far, he has been 3rd down only, but I think he will take over for Harralson very soon.
AND noyone is replaceing Gore as the starter, but we do need a back that can spell him and produce.

I think you misunderstood my post. I was actually saying that Gore IS a great back, and that he makes our line look better than it is.

Nobody in their right mind thinks that just because Chris Johnson is having success, that everyone built like him or as fast as him will have the same success. That's childish thinking. The point I and others are making about Spiller is that he would give us a dimension on offense (speed out of the backfield) and on special teams (playmaking ability) that we just don't have. If he develops into half the featured back that Chris Johnson is, I'd be happy. But he brings a lot of ability that is missing on offense and special teams, which is the reason a lot of people want to see him in a 49er uni next season.

I actually agree to a certain extent that we can get a cheaper version of Spiller in the later rounds...if this is the route we went, I wouldn't be mad. I just know that investing early picks (outside of the top-10) in your offensive line is not quite as solid a strategy as people think it is...then again, all picks are risky, so you just have to decide who you project to help your team the most and who has the most potential regardless of position, and use your top picks on those prospects.

I think Johnson will be the reason Spiller goes very high, how many teams now regret passing on Johnson. I have not done the research on this but isn't Spiller a better prospect than Johnson was coming out, not saying he will be better but Johnson coming from a non-bcs school seemed to hurt him.
