It really is bizarre he was 13/14 only miss was a 50+ and 12/12 on XPs last year before his injury. Then went 11/20 and 20/21 on XPs coming back. Dude was absolutely killing it makes you wonder if it was KS rushing him back that shot his confidence. Fans booing him lining up for a kick and still booing/heckling him even after he makes probably doesn't help

More importantly, how do you explain the pre season?

He was definitely better before the injury. I know this sounds like nitpicking and very petty, but the one miss he had was the most important - the one that would have sealed the game @ LAR. He also was "barely" making a lot of those kicks, they were sliding right next to the uprights. I know, sounds petty, but I just don't buy that his injury was the main thing.
The 49ers need to stop making excuses for this guy.

Its carried over to the pre season and that's a big problem. Damaged goods. He isn't Robbie Gould. See ya.

They need to quit making excuses for the guy. He's going to cost us a game at some point this season. The best thing for him and the 49ers is to part ways.

He should have never come back from that injury as fast as he did. I remember thinking that it was dumb to use him so quickly.
a big piece of being a top kicker is your mental confidence and stability, mental health. After last season, it was super negative and bad on him.
Idk why Kyle brought him back so quickly. He had a bad ankle injury and probably should of healed up for another 3-4 weeks
im not saying moody isn't responsible for his play st all. I just think it was multiple things that compounded it and it was bad coaching on special teams and/or Kyle for rushing back a kicker for no reason.

I'm getting sick of Moody just like the rest of fans and wouldn't hurt my feelings if he was cut but I'm not going to be jumping for joy either cause it likely won't solve anything
wait you are the same person who keeps on saying kicker position has the same scarcity as QB or WR. LOL.
you can keep lying to yourself all you want, but dont insult the intelligence of people who watch football for decades
a random kicker coming out of nowhere isnt a rare outlier. its an every year occurrence. this year, you say "no one is available". I guarantee you there will be no name kickers coming out of nowhere this year and doing better than moody's career numbers
keeping a kicker who cant kick on the roster because there is no one better is like keeping a condom with a hole in it. at worst its sabotage, at best its just stupid and begging to win stupid prizes.

Moody was already shaky before the injury.... Do folks forget the 2023 postseason already ???
Under 50 miss against the lions, under 50 miss against packers, PAT miss against KC. He missed a kick in every postseason game.

I'm naming players off the top of my head that show up out of nowhere. Id actually say WRs show up more than kickers even running backs.
The bold is exactly what I'm saying, thinking you can just pull a kicker off the street willy nilly is a long shot (no pun intended). You might find a more accurate kicker with a 40 yard leg but once it hits around 50 yards you get Moody production while he can hit 60+

I watched the whole game for the most part punts and kickoffs I checked out till the game action started again. Dude really kicked it short out of bounds after missing a PAT?
No wonder they went for on 4th down when Mordicai was clearly hurt

Matt Maiocco on Jake Moody:

"I just wonder if the 49ers can open the season with him. I asked Kyle Shanahan about that straight up after the game and his answer was he had one of the best games he's ever seen against the Raiders. That might be kind of a major overstatement… pic.twitter.com/qaScuqzbJX

Literally most of the league is made up of no name kickers that don't get drafted (or are late day 3 picks) that go on to be consistent kickers in the NFL for a long time.
they wasted a top 100 pick on a kicker and put incredible stress on a position that's all about having a player that can handle being stressed out.
moody might be a great kicker, s**t doesn't matter if he folds like a lawn chair when it matters. Dude lacks the nuts and confidence to be a good/great kicker in the NFL.
If he wasn't taken top 100, he wouldn't have made it through last yr.
it was an arrogant pick and they're not owning up to it.
