Tell that to the Raiders. They drafted one in the 1st round. He turned out okay so you can't say never.

For those that are interested and concerned there were 12 teams tha twere worse than the 49ers at converting the extra point last season. The Niners were right in the middle of the pack. So many fans are convinced they can find a guy any time they want that is better so why be concerned if it's that easy to replace him. If he screws up big time when the season starts they can replace him.

Even if we drafted a kicker as good as Janikoqski, it's still not worth it and it is still a waste. You can get a kicker that's about as good (or better) without wasting a pick. We've been good at kicker for a long, long time……..until we drafted one. There's no need for the risk, i don't care how great the kicker is

All of you that are hung up on wasting a 3rd round pick on a kicker are probably the same people that say the Niners can't draft very well. There's no way of knowing who they would have picked and if he would still be on the team. As far as last year goes he was kicking fine unti he had that injury. When he came back he either wasn't 100% or he was over compensating for the injury. He wasn't missing left and right like that before the injury. Still he has to show that he can be reliable when the season starts. It's not uncommon to see teams change kickers during the season.

It's not so much that they drafted him. Just that it's not working out up until now. Still some time. But he better figure it out quick. The obsession about drafting him I don't get. He was 3rd compensatory. That's like 4th round. He could hit from 59 - 60 yards in College. So in a way I can see what they were seeing. He's just so inaccurate, inconsistent, has mental lapses, misses under pressure. That's the problem. Not that he was drafted.

I would have gladly spent a 3rd round draft pick for Janikoqski, that is a no brainer, knowing now how he turned out.
What kickers might be available on Tuesday....any ideas of teams that have two good ones?

Looks like John Romo and Mathew Wright, Moody is ranked #23
like others have said, drafting him in the third was stupid but that is NOT even the biggest current problem.

the current problem is that he is still on the roster, regardless of where he was drafted.

they are treating this problem like it's not a problem, like it would resolve itself. it won't. this is just a bad approach to solving a problem. knowing damn well this is a problem that can easily turn a won game into a lost game, the FO approach is scaring me more than Moody. forget Moody, he isn't worth talking about so much. it's how the FO refuses address one of the easiest roster cuts to make that will not cause ANY uproar from anyone and treats it like its some kind of difficult decision.

it really isn't. the decision to not offer Greenlaw a good contract should be the 10000x times more difficult decision to make. kickers are passed around routinely. it's not a scarce position at all. its not a money issue. can literally get them off the streets. whats the worst thing that can happen ? a kicker we get instead will miss some kicks ? well hello, our kicker is already doing this. whats the worst thing ? Moody goes elsewhere and is a literal HoF ? OK, who cares ? he won't be one with us.

like there is no logical upside in keeping Moody, just downsides

Umm dude hasn't even played 2 full seasons, and no one out there is much if at all better that's why. Not saying he shouldn't be eventually cut but that likely won't fix anything. If anything we get someone barely more accurate but can't kick past 50 yards. Not sure what you mean by Greenlaw we offered him more than the broncos
This guy needs to go, already played a major part in losing a SB and still completely unreliable

literally there are dudes off the street who are better

lions signed a dude who was a brick salesman and he hit 89% his first year with them, literally made as many 50+ yarders in one year as Moody has in both years

this guy thought he was out of the league. why did the Lions, a team contending for the SB, can make this move but for the 49ers "no one out there is much if at all better" ?

The Cowboys signed a USFL kicker and a former soccer player the same year the Niners drafted Moody. How did that turn out ? Brandon Aubrey is a 89% career FG, and has already made 20+ fgs made over 50 yards. Talk about a kicker who is accurate AND has a big leg.

Yes, keep saying "no one out there is much if at all better" while keeping a bad kicker on the roster while other teams make moves like that. But hey, they are all dumb teams, only our FO is smart. They know there arent guys like Aubrey or Bates available so they will keep good ol Jake Moody on the roster and he will cost them games. Then when Moody shanks a game winner Kyle will look in disgust as there will be only one person he should be disgusted with and it ain't Moody.

Yeah Kurt Warner bagged groceries, James Harrison was cut several times, Adam Theilen was a walk on tryout. You're kind of making my point, fans think cutting him and get a new kicker will solve these missed field goals naming rare outliers saying anyone off the streets will be better . I'm getting sick of Moody just like the rest of fans and wouldn't hurt my feelings if he was cut but I'm not going to be jumping for joy either cause it likely won't solve anything

I'm not sure the 49ers actually draft well there is certainly not much good young talent on this team.
I think it's currently a 50/50 chance that we trade moody away and resign the other kicker we cut a few weeks ago. Lol

I think Kyle wants that veteran mindset at kicker and it'll bring him peace.

idk if it would make our situation any better but I feel like the team might do that.

Someone will take a flier on him - he was widely regarded as a great prospect and has shown flashes. A lot of the time a change of scenery helps mentally to help them get better.

I'm not saying that we will get much for him but he's tradable, IMO.

That's just my dark horse surprise for roster cutdowns. Lol
