I think he may just end up becoming a FA. With his ties to Demeco Ryans, I think we could be high on his list. If we acquire Watson, I think he would for sure give us a discount for a run at a ring.

You're right. Texans Would be smart to get something for him. They're still like 4mil over the cap even if they cut him.
The Texans gonna do everyone dirty? Just let him go and have a chance to pick his team. No one is trading for Watt and $17M
I've been surprised at what teams would do to make sure they don't have to compete for players. But this new regime really has no loyalty to anyone at this point. Caserio's main concerns are Upset Watson, no money, and no draft picks. He could at least try to make a deal that would benefit the team.
If they lose Watson, I'd blow it all up if I were Caserio. Trade/cut everyone and start from scratch after a few horibad years.

I think he's done honestly. You'd just be buying the name.

As a prime threat, probably not a big deal. But if you have him as a piece of a DL, then he could be a nice piece. Add him next to Bosa, AA, And Kinlaw and you might see a revival. Maybe he can show AA how to swat passes at 6'7. But his stats this year were comparable to TJ Watt. Big difference was his sacks and QB hurries were low, probably due to an overall poor defense . But I don't think that has to be the focal point here, but he can probably be a 10 sack player who frees up Bosa. Sometimes a name still something.
If they miss out on Watson, and trade for Stafford, maybe they flip Jimmy for Watt.

3 years ago, sure. Signing him now to an over priced contract would be Dee Ford 2.0 imo.

Still better than anyone not named BOSA. And also, HOU plays a 3-4. Switching to a 4-3 will be much easier for Bosa.

He's not going to get a huge contract, I'll be willing to bet at this point he just wants to win and will sign a team friendly deal. He doesn't strike me as the guy who with his advanced age will try to break the bank and chase the money

If he would come in for Ford's actual money minus the cap hit to drop him, just to try and win a ring I would take him in a heart beat. Put him on a pitch count to keep him fresh and play him opposite Bosa. He won't, and it will never happen, but I would in a heartbeat. Just a two year deal to chase a ring and put off our need to draft another pass rusher for a little bit longer. He will probably want premium dollars or find a team that is a little further down the contender ladder that still has more cap wiggle.
