History would say yes since from what others have said is the center makes all the line calls.

Yep, this is what we've deduced based on the financial investments he's made at the position, the lack of draft investments at the position, and the responsibility he puts on the center in his offense(ie all the calls).
Alex Mack would be a big pickup even if it's just for a season or two.

As much as I like Mack... this is not the center class I would sign an aging FA with one or two years left. We will look back and realize we passed up on some very good prospects like Meinerz who I think can be a cornerstone on our offense for years.
I look at FA to fill in the roster not build it.
When "BPA" matches "position of need" you don't need to spend money on veterans.

Can still draft Meinerz even if we sign Mack no?

We can sign a Center and draft one that plays C/G in the meantime. Mack knows the system and is still a top 10 C. That's all we need, especially against a team like the Chiefs when we had a backup who had trouble with Jones.

I guess it depends on what Mack wants. If it's reasonable I'm totally fine with it as long as we take advantage of the draft too.
i just think we really need to take advantage of this years interior class like we did last year for the stacked WR group.

I've heard you guys talk about Alex Mack even before the article came out recently talking about him fitting in well on the 49ers. What would his cost be? How many years?
Also, someone even brought up moving Richburg to RG. Would he fit there? I like the idea of shoring up the line with vets in order for any draft picks to sit and learn a bit.

I'd love to bring in Mack. Everything he said in that interview suggests he'd like to be in SF if the offer was adequate.
What's sucks is I don't think Richburg's contract is easy to get rid of in 2021 and I have doubts Richburg can hold up at RG.

They can cut him after June 1st and save around $8 mil while taking about a $3 million hit.
