Let's all just hope Jerry Rice doesn't put his signature on this rumor.

"IF" a deal goes down, hopefully it won't include this year's 1st. With Stafford at helm, there's a good possibility that next year's 1st would be late, like really late.
You don't think the Lions know that? I don't see a way this gets done without us giving up our first rounder this year. I'd love to be wrong though.
Dilly dilly
We need to talk to Staff and see if he wants to come here.. then we can trade jimmy and our 1st rounder back to Pats for their 1st and their second.
Yes, it means that we are giving Bill back his boy Grappy, then we switch 1st round spot but will also get the Patriots 2nd rounder.. then we can offer Detroit
our 2nd and the Patriots 2nd for Staff..
THIS GOTS TO BE DONE, GOTS TO BE !!!
Jimmy likely wouldn't even get a 4th, because everyone knows the 49ers will move on from him as soon as something better comes along and will likely end up releasing him this year or the next.
Even then, he has a no trade clause in his contract. He'd have to agree to a trade, and the only reason he would is to make sure he's still on his 27 million dollar contract. So he'd have to be assured by the team that traded for him that they would let him play at least one year on that contract (assuming he wouldn't rather restructure for more guaranteed money).
So basically, Jimmy is not likely to be traded. Most likely he'll either be here while a rookie prepares to take his job or he'll be released.

Fact: He's played every game in 9 of last 10 seasons
Fiction: He's had a good O around him because he had Megatron
Fact: He's had one 1,000 yd rusher
In 12 yrs
Fiction: He doesn't win
Fact: Lions 11-5 w/ him only year w/ a top 5 D
Tbf we haven't had a 1000-yard rusher since Shanahan got here and our running game is still considered elite by most.
What kind of OL have the Lions had this past decade? Legit asking because idk.
How bout this: Not once in Stafford's career has he had a top twenty defense AND top twenty rushing offense in the same season.

Maiccco who has a good pulse on team had interesting comments today tweet. Basically saying niners will show interest but likely won't get in bidding war and that Colts better fit/more to offer

Yep. He's tough but always hurt.
like a lot of QBs...difference is he plays
Playing doesn't mean he's consistently effective. It only means he's tough.
Id rather have a tough qb that plays and still gives you a chance to win than having to have to watch Mullins/Beathard rest of season. Jimmy tried to be "tough" and play and it was a disaster.

This is my gut feeling too. We're not going to outbid anybody.

Denver and the Colts are the main competition.
But the Colts are drafting at 21. If the 49ers are willing to part with 12 to get Stafford, they have a massive leg up. Denver is the real threat to this trade. And frankly, Stafford's wife might prefer Colorado.

Just saw that tweet, too. I'll say this: If the 49ers don't make a move for Watson or Stafford, they must be all-in on someone in the draft. There's no way this team can walk into next season without having resolved who will take the reins after Jimmy. He's too much of an injury risk.

The Broncos are more than a QB away though...

That's true. And they may decide to give Lock another chance, or (more likely) try to replace him with another rookie.
But I think they would seriously consider trying to trade for him. But maybe Stafford would shut it down because he wants to go to a better team.

If the niners have to make a trade with the 12th pick, obviously I would prefer to go all in on Watson.
I would even consider trading up for a QB in the draft.
Still, Stafford is really good. You don´t find that kind of talent very often.
I think that he ´s the prefered option of Shanahan based on his preferences or his little chat with Brady apparently last year. Martin Mayhew should know very well Stafford and the kind of leader he is.
Because like it or not but Garoppolo is loved by his teammates and a strong leader. The guy that is going to replace him has to be quite the leader also. That seems to be the case obviously with Stafford or Watson but you never know.
Damn this sport is hard.^^
He'd give Shanny the fifth element.Haha. A devestating down the field air attack. Would be bad for the rest of the league.
