I don't understand it but I guess people like that he has strong arm even though he throws a lot of interceptions and makes a lot of boneheaded mistakes. More so than Jimmy.

1st Alex Smith,...now Stafford.

I guess you'd like to make the argument that Jimmy would've went #1 overall before both of them, I take it?

In terms of potential,...Jimmy went where he went in the draft for a reason. Both of those guys have had more potential by miles and miles than Jimmy's ceiling. Just the barebones truth in terms of QB prospects.

You understand it perfectly.

I don't think Manning or Brady would have done anything worth mentioning had they spent their careers in Detroit either.
Stanford has usually been part of a good passing game with a horrible rushing attack. It feels like he has been around forever, but only 3 years older than Jimmy G. Detroit would want a lot in return to trade him I believe.

I don't think the 49ers would be able to keep their number 1.
It wasn't always about talent in Detroit. When they had talent their coaching was bad. When they had a decent coach they had a terrible GM. Sometimes it was both. Look at their history. They should turn their logo into flames because the organization has been a flaming disaster for nearly it's entire existence. They just fired the HC and GM again. Fans on this forum that complain about a draft pick or some play calling don't know how good they have it.
Okay, to those of you pushing for Stafford, STOP IT, the guy is an inaccurate gunslinger. What's the matter with y'all lol?

His completion percentage isn't much lower than Rodgers'.

Did Brady, Montana, and Wilson get drafted when they got drafted for a reason as you put it? Jimmy was a second round pick. Even with Jimmy's faults he is possibly the best QB in his draft or Derek Carr. I wouldn't classify Alex Smith as more potential by miles and miles.

Completion % isn't a indicator of how great a QB is.Last year Brees led the league with 74% followed by Carr and Tannehill at about 70%. After them comes Cousins and JG at 69.1%. Out of those 5, only Brees would be considered a great QB.

With today's rules and the way offenses are run, most QBs have a high completion %. The NFL average last season was 62.2 %. Josh Allen was last at 59.1% but he's up to 68% this season. For comparison, Montana's career average was 63.2 % and Young's was 64.3%. That would rank them near the bottom in today's game. Of course we know they were among the best to ever play. It's just another stat that shows how the passing game has advanced to favor the QB.

SINCE I expect Saleh to be Detroit's new coach, I'm sure we can make a deal with him that will send us Stafford .,..

I don't betray people. But this is an English language site, mostly, and it would be polite to use it.

I have no interest in Stafford. I would take Moon's other enthusiasm, Darnold, against Stafford. Personally I think Shanahan will write off this season and stick with Garoppolo. If they don't I hope they don't trade away significant value to pick up a draftee.

I know right. Random, that is a horrible argument imo. Alex smith isn't close to the ceiling Jimmy has. We've seen him as a game manager his whole career. I guess some people don't mind an automated punt if it's 3rd & long bc Alex couldn't convert one for the life of him. Who the hell cares about potential??? . No I wouldn't say jimmy should've been drafted number 1 but we are talking about NFL game production not potential out of college.

Stafford like I said has a great arm but isn't good under pressure or in big games. Especially against good defenses.

Guy has had one 1000yd RB in his career. Reggie Bush had 1006 in 2013. Zero threat of a running game in his 12 year career. Pretty sad
