Stafford wasted in Det. A good defensive team with a run game could've really protected him. I think it's too late to turn back the clock.

This, these contracts are just ugly. I would take him or Ryan but their contracts are just too atrocious when we're strapped and need to resign key guys then we gotta trade high picks for them

San Francisco 49ers: Coach Kyle Shanahan helped Ryan become the league MVP and reach a Super Bowl. He just knocked the Los Angeles Rams out of first place in the NFC West with Nick Mullens subbing for Jimmy Garoppolo at quarterback. Think Shanahan could win big with Stafford? His Falcons offenses were more pass-oriented than his 49ers offenses have become for a simple reason. Shanahan had greater faith throwing the ball with Ryan than he has throwing the ball with the quarterbacks in San Francisco. Stafford would open the playbook.
"They would win a Super Bowl," an offensive coach said. "Stafford would be in a real organization finally. He would bend to Shanahan and that offense because there is such a history of success with that system. And Stafford would know he's not going to get hit in the head all the time like in Detroit."

Yeah is very costly. Then we would have to eat some money on garappolo's contract too. We could always trade with a contract restructure in place.

Stafford would be absolutely perfect in Tampa if they hadn't gone ahead with Brady who is a relatively lousy fit for their offense. He's less potato Carson Palmer who would thrive in that Arians chuck and duck offense, especially with all those receivers around.
For the 49ers he might be the most realistic trading option, even if unlikely. Matt Ryan isn't happening, the Falcons would have to eat way, way too much money in a year that the cap is going down. Same thing with Wentz. Darnold only continues to disappoint. Rodgers isn't happening. Stafford is a pure pocket passer, big body, plays tough, willing to take a hit, can throw the ball anywhere on the field and having a consistent running game for the first time in his career would alleviate a tremendous amount of pressure off of him.
That said, I don't think its going to happen. Trade compensation would be high, Stafford still costs a ton of money, Detroit would still have to take a significant cap hit and would they be willing to send him to another NFC team to begin with? I could see Pittsburgh or Indy as good landing destinations if they end up moving on from Big Ben and Rivers respectively.

I'd take Stafford in a heartbeat. Hearing Aaron Rodgers gush about how good Stafford is on the Pat McAfee show was pretty damn cool. Game recognizes game

Same. I've always liked Stafford. Never had a running game or an offensive line.

Same here. Looking through this thread, I constantly see people arguing that Stafford's a choker, but the guy has lead 37 game-winning drives in his career. It' not his fault that he was wasted by one of the most dysfunctional franchises in all of sports. It would be interesting to see how good Stafford could be with a functional team around him and a coaching staff that's worth a damn. The only competent coach he's ever had was Caldwell and he got fired after 3 winning seasons in 4 years.

Yeah he would have made too much sense in TB....Brady was such a head scratcher to me there, Arians has always been a vertical YOLO deep passing HC. That's not Brady's MO especially at this stage in his career. I truthy thought Arians would have changed his system for him. Guess not lol
Just checking out Stafford's cap hit in a trade for s**ts and giggles.
If traded to SF his cap hits for the next 3 yrs...
2021-$14M
2022-$20M
2023-$3M (dummy yr)
The Lions would save $14M in 2021 (DM $19M) 2022 they would save $20M (DM $6M).

Saleh goes to Detroit, SF trades Jimmy and a 2nd for Stafford, SF saves like $20M in cap space over the next 2 yrs and gets a upgrade at QB. There's also a 3rd yr in Stafford's deal to structure and spread out that cash.
They will have needed cap space to make the moves you need to make and get 2 3rd picks by Saleh leaving on top of it.
Who says no?
