Two #Chiefs notes: 1. They seem to have a market for franchised pass-rusher Dee Ford, with the #Packers and #49ers expressing interest, I'm told. 2. They are hosting FA RB Carlos Hyde and there is a good chance they sign him, if all goes well with the physical, source said.

What kind of compensation are we thinking here? He's on the franchise tag, so we are going to have to extend him.

So what's the thinking here? Say we give up our 36. For Ford. Now it's draft day:

Bosa goes 1: we hope to trade down (seems like at this point a trade up for Murray/Haskins is too sexy for at least one team not to take advantage of) and get a few picks, which essentially recoups our 2nd rounder. If we can't, we have our pick of Allen, Q, Burns.

Bosa is there at 2. We take him.

I don't see a bad choice here.

Except that the Chiefs are willing to part with Ford because they don't believe him to be a 4-3 end which is the alignment they are switching to. This gives me pause. They aren't willing to move him for cap or performance reasons, just because they don't think he can do the job we want to trade for him to do

We need a SAM (a 3-4 OLB in this scheme). And he can rush in sub. He'd never come off the field.

Forgive me for my ignorance, but do Josh Allen and Dee Ford essentially play the same position relative to our scheme?

We might have to wipe Allen off our board if this happens.

This is an incorrect statement. From how i read it, they essentially are trying to have the kind of dline we have here. With having a big end who can stop the run. And a true pass rusher on the other side. They aren't wanting to use both Houston and Ford as the ends.

This is probably the case. I would expect Ford to play the Sam just like Allen. Landing Bosa and Ford is most ideal. Nickel package can have Bosa-DeFo-Thomas-Ford, would be formidable

Yeah I do think Allen is more versatile but Ford is the better pass rusher.

Honestly I'm fine if they do it or don't. I'd rather not lose that 36th overall pick because that the sweet spot for WRs.

I'd also hope they wouldn't move down from 2 if Bosa is there regardless if they have Ford

Okay, here's my plan I'll pass along to Lynch.

Trade our 2nd for Ford and a 5th.

Bosa goes #1, we trade #2 and the 5th to NYG for #6 and OBJ. Trade #6 to Miami for #13 and #48. Draft Burns/Sweat/Ferrell at #13 or trade down again and take Bush or a CB like Greedy, Murphy, or Baker.

Or Bosa is there at #2 and we run up giggling while turning in the pick.
