Sammy Watkins 5th year option declined

Since Jimmy tore it up without him, pretend Garcon is our new FA acquisition this year.

I like Garcon more than Watkins. Goodwin can stretch the field while Garcon and Taylor are great possession receivers that can get the key first down. The Niners dont need to spend tons of money on a guy who isnt better than what they already have.

Even if he isnt, where is the return for Sammy for 10 per year?

Goodwin sure had the better year last season, outside of TD's and he only had Jimmy G throwing him the football for 5 games.

Yeah I'd rather draft a WR then pay Watkins $10 million.

Watkins is Percy Harvin II

For those who didn't watch the Rams, Sammy was used in a very specific role for the Rams...as a deep threat even though Golf was awful on deep balls. Sammy caught 3/15 deep passes. The 3 he caught were the only charted catchable passes from Goff.

I'm not sure if he is a true super #1 kind of a guy, but he's still super talented. But I am certain watkins can do whatever you ask of him.

And He's better than any WR we have on our roster. Idk how you guys on this board tend to overvalue players when discussing guys like watkins then devalue those same players when discussing draft choices lol.

I'll take Garcon over him. I do like him and if the price is right, I have no problem bringing him in....I would rather not invest anything outside of a 1 yr deal on the kid.

FWIW I did watch a lot of Ram's games and yes he was used more of a decoy/deep threat...but possibly the coaching staff (after working with him) realized that's what he is best at. It not like they had a bunch of Julio Jones' in front of him. Why would the team give up a good young DB along with a 2nd and only use him as a decoy/deep threat? IF they gave up all that and don't offer him a deal/tag him then there's a little reason for concern IMO

You acquire bigger bodied WR's because they are always open, even when covered. Different skill set of needs to compliment the slot and outside receivers in Taylor, Goodwin, Garcon, Kittle, etc.

If you can find a fast, precise big bodied WR, you found Julio Jones and Megatron.
