Sammy Watkins 5th year option declined

Also why can't you say Watkins will be 25 in June if your gonna say Garçon will be 32 in August

I am looking forward to having Garcon back in the fold and would like the Niners to take a chance with Watkins.

I didn't know Garcon's age so I looked it up.....I have read in the FA articles that Watkins is 24....didn't take the time to research his age

Sammy Watkins can be a stud if he stays healthy. I totally get the reservation of wanting a player who has battled injuries the past 2 seasons. I just cant get behind these posts who are downplaying his skillset.

Hate using this argument, but its clear many people have not seen him play much.

Watkins is a beast of a player and could be like Julio if he wasn't hurt ALL the time. Not sure if that will ever change. His skill and ability is unquestionable though.

This is about to be Watkins 3rd team in his very short career. How many times do these stories end up turning into a successful one after a guy gets drafted in the first round, yet teams keep giving up on the player for one reason or another?

You guys are chasing something that has a long history of disappointments in this league and I don't think he is worth the investment it will take to get him. Players on a downward trend shouldn't get paid what Watkins is probably going to get paid. Let Some other team take that gamble.

All good I'm fine bringing in Watkins but imo he's gonna get paid based on his draft slot/name and will get paid more than I think he should.

Personally I'd rather draft/develop a WR and spend that cash elsewhere.

I think Watkins is an extremely talented player, but talent only takes you so far. The concerning part is that his talent got him drafted 4th overall, made a team trade valuable assets to acquire him, and will now secure him a large contract as a FA, but at what point does he consistently start producing like an upper echelon receiver? Hell, he's being out produced by many of the receivers from his own draft class.

I'm not chasing anything. Not saying we should go after him, mainly because I don't see rams letting him go at all.

The guy plays injured all the time, and he still takes over games time to time. When he's on, he's unstoppable.

The question to me isn't if he's highly skilled, the question is if he's worth the injury risk. I'm not sure about that one.
Gonna be hilarious when we see the bears fork over a 4 yr $50 million dollar deal for this kid lol

They're gonna have two top 10 drafted WRs on IR

C'mon man.

Some dudes just don't have it. He's been in the league FAR too long to get the hype he gets around here. At least with a draft pick you can pretend he will one day be worth a lick. Watkins hasn't caused defenses to fear him in years.

Lmao he's 24. And One of the reasons the rams offense was so effective is because defenses feared Watkins lol

So let's pay him a ton of cash to be a "feared" decoy lol...hot damn you Watkins agent or something lol? FYI he will be 25

Even when Robert Woods was out and he didn't have the decoy tag, he avg like 47 yards. He's about to get paid by a team like the bears because they have zero at WR and there an't s**t in free agency lol.

I think they should. Guarantee 25 mill.. They need to help Mitch and he deserves it. Draft a WR in 2nd or 3rd and they could be in business. I'd sign Gabriel if I were them too. It'll open up things for Howard.

I love seeing the Bears be scrappy lol. They have a soft spot for me in the NFC.
I don't know if Sammy would just basically be redundant on the Niners, but I did notice he had 39 total receptions last year and 8 TDs. I'm sure a lot of people already knew that but I saw that and went damn, the TD/catch ratio is hella impressive. One score for every 5 (even fractionally less) catches. Maybe end up being an outlier during his career but you can't argue with a stat like this.

I'm high on Garcon, Goodwin, Taylor, Bourne and Kittle.
