Johnathan Hankins...

I'd be fine with Hankins at a team friendly deal. In today's market 8-9 mil per qualifies. We could do 3/25 with 18 guaranteed and even add on years 4 and 5 as basically team options. So 4/35 or even 5/42 or so with 18-20 still in guarantees. Why are we concerned with resigning AA when he hasn't proven he's a legit starter in a 3-4 muchless our new scheme. The new regime won't be in a hurry to overpay. Buckner the following year should be planned for. While I believe AA may be decent in the new scheme, justifiably rumors have him be packaged in a potential trade based on both scheme fit and redundancy with a better Buckner.

That said last season we couldn't stop the run. We were rumored to be interested in both Williams and Poe. They received top of market money and a 1 year prove it deal respectively. Neither of which make sense for us. NYG can't pay every talented DL they have. To me Hankins makes a ton of sense. Especially in the 8 mil range. He's earned that and then some. We have it. He'd plug right in and solidify our run defense. While we can draft a similar type player, does a day 3 pick upgrade our team sooner then later if at all?

Sometimes these things are simple. We wanted a run stopper. Supposedly chased the other top 2 of 3 available. But now we don't want the other guy available below market value? The Baalke regime is over. Stop thinking like morons....

I saw your point until you kinda ruined it at the end by acting like you know better than Lynch and Shanahan lol. I think if Lynch didn't think either someone or a combination of a current player, a player targeted in the draft (possible trade during the draft as well for a vet) couldn't get it done then we woulda broke the bank for one of these guys. I think not investing in them means we're not that worried about it and will have guys to get the job done.

We have the money doe... I think they believe Mitchell/Dial/Blair/rookie/Possible vet wink-wink trade deal during the draft if a team gets a player they like at DT can get the job done.

I understand how you're feeling doe... like wtf! Get this guy and we're instantly better! Appearently out mgmt doesn't think so. We gotta get past the sound of a big name sometimes.

I think the 49ers are done
spending big in FA. I expect any additional signings to come straight off the discount rack.

Hankins isnt that caliber of player to demand even $8 million. I think he is a name that people are fascinated with but his performance wasnt very good last season. Don't see it as some big loss if they pass on signing him.

I agree with you. Brown and Hankins can both be the guys that we're interested in if the money is right. It's like negotiating for a car... they have it for sale for 7-8 grand. After some talks at the end you pretty much come around and say 4800 is my bottom line offer, straight cash homie; give me a call if you don't get a better offer, thanks for your time and best of luck.

The Giants made a calculated gamble that no team would beat their offer to re-sign him.

Is that the word or your guess? Didn't see anything on Schefters twitter nor heard anything on sports shows/espn/nfln.

I agree that the 49ers big spending of 2017 is done. The team is moving it's focus to the draft.

I think Hankins' down year was more attributed to him being moved out of his natural one tech spot due to the Giants bringing in Snacks last season.

Also agree.

Unless some spectacular deal comes out of nowhere - we're staying pat.

Hankins is good but not 8 M good.
