No one knew the 9ers had any sort of interest in trading for them.
Nobody even wanted Gabbert or Martin though. And the Boldin deal had to do with the Ravens needing to shed his salary, and John's brother needing a WR.
The 49ers clearly arent satisfied with their WR depth. Theyve been sniffing around several WR this offseason. They flew Edelman out, they were trying to host Sanders, and now theyre asking Philly about Jackson. Sounds like way too much work for "smoke and mirrors" IMO.
Boldin is a short term answer, and signing Michael Crabtree might prove to be an even greater pain in the butt than it was during rookie contract negotiations. I think theyre looking for some future stability at WR, especially when theyre about to shell out a franchise record contract for Colin Kaepernick. Hes not going to be worth that money without weapons.
I would guess that were looking for another good WR who can return punts. Edelman, Sanders, and Jackson all fit that description. WR in the draft can take 2+ years to develop.
Im not saying were going to get Jackson at any cost, but I think theres plenty of proof that theyre serious about adding another veteran WR.
