This would also be a decent pickup.

he fell to 5th wr on bears squad and average only 7.9 yds a catch last year

Not likely to happen. Jackson won't take a pay cut.

Just a feeler: would you trade Iupati for Jackson and a draft pick?

If 9ers were gonna trade for D. Jackson, they would've done it without anyone knowing they had interest.

Anquan Boldin
Blaine Gabbert
Jonathan Martin

No one knew the 9ers had any sort of interest in trading for them.

Good point.

Nobody even wanted Gabbert or Martin though. And the Boldin deal had to do with the Ravens needing to shed his salary, and John's brother needing a WR.

The 49ers clearly arent satisfied with their WR depth. Theyve been sniffing around several WR this offseason. They flew Edelman out, they were trying to host Sanders, and now theyre asking Philly about Jackson. Sounds like way too much work for "smoke and mirrors" IMO.

Boldin is a short term answer, and signing Michael Crabtree might prove to be an even greater pain in the butt than it was during rookie contract negotiations. I think theyre looking for some future stability at WR, especially when theyre about to shell out a franchise record contract for Colin Kaepernick. Hes not going to be worth that money without weapons.

I would guess that were looking for another good WR who can return punts. Edelman, Sanders, and Jackson all fit that description. WR in the draft can take 2+ years to develop.

Im not saying were going to get Jackson at any cost, but I think theres plenty of proof that theyre serious about adding another veteran WR.

I think the original point is valid. This front office/regime has shown the desire to obfuscate their intentions. Draft picks are usually a mystery, trades tend to come out of nowhere, and contract negotiations are kept completely behind closed doors. We can read a number of things into the reported interest in Desean Jackson:

1. The 49ers are doing their due diligence on a player with upside at a position of need.

2. The 49ers have actively entered into a campaign to convince the league that they are more concerned with the WR position than they are with CB with the intention of targeting a CB in the first round. A draft day shell game of sorts.

3. WR really is more concerning to the team than CB and they are desperate enough to over pay for Jackson.

I tend to think #2 (and a little #1) fits. the tandem of Boldin/Crabtree is a stronger starting group than Brock/Culliver, mainly because Brock has just recently taken a step forward and Culliver is coming back from injury. A rookie WR, barring injury, will have the opportunity to watch and learn while a rookie CB may end up playing significant minutes. In other words, I think the need for a "game ready" CB is a priority over a WR of the same ilk. We use three CBs FAR more often than we use three WRs. Additionally, Patton as a #3 inspires more confidence in me than Wright/Cook/Morris right now. Since the CB free agent market has all but dried up, I think the heavy-handed WR search is purposeful. Methinks the Baalke doth protest too much.
Devin Hester really looking for $4 million a year to return kicks???

Well you can always try/hope
Damn if we get Desean Jackson, the zone will go NUTS!
Apparently the Panthers and us are "favorites" to land Josh Morgan.

He would become their #1 receiver and just a nice luxury for us.
