Yes. Before his injury opposing QB´s had a passer rating of 107.3 when targeting him.

Good thing we didn't already sign Chris Cook, who was equally bad if not worse.

Clearly our FO cares more about their evaluations of a player's physical tools (and whether the coaches can mold anything out of it) than they do about that player's recent performance. See also Gabbert, Blaine.

Yes he was even worse. Qb´s had a passer rating of insane 140.3.

With that said. Cook was definitely no fit whatsoever in the Vikings scheme which relies a lot an zone coverage. Combine that with his inability to track the ball in the air and you´ve got a problem.
While in man-to-man especially press ( which I expect to see a lot from us this season ) he often times was in pretty good position to mak a play on the ball but well you guessed it, could not track it or get his hands on it.
When Donatell somehow manages to get the best out of Cook he could be a very good FA pick up.

Low risk / high reward.

Lions on the other side just recently gave Chris Houston a 5 year $ 25 Million Dollar contract.

Today from Niners Nation:
There are now rumors the 49ers might be dipping their toe in the UDFA supplemental pool. Inside Carolina, a UNC scout.com message board, is reporting that sources have told them linebacker Darius Lipford is headed to San Francisco on Monday, and plans on signing with the 49ers.

Has anyone seen Lipford play?

Could be another ST Ace.

Darius Lipford, OLB, North Carolina
After starting one game and playing in 11 as a freshman in 2010 and being the team's full-time started in 2011 at strong side linebacker, Darius Lipford tore his ACL in the team's bowl game in early 2012, forcing him to miss the entire 2012 season. Once he returned in 2013, he played in 10 games, mostly as the team's "Bandit" linebacker, playing more defensive end/pass-rusher roles than a regular 4-3 strong side linebacker. Despite the injury concerns and somewhat out of place position, Lipford showed plus explosiveness on the edge and when stunting as a rusher, with the requisite bend and balance during his leg drive and while engaged. Also with plus length for an NFL strong side linebacker and plus in-space athleticism to breakdown and finish as a tackler, he has the upside to contribute situationally early in his NFL career and can certainly add a good, not elite, athlete to a team's special teams unit

Darius Lipford, North Carolina
6-3, 245, 4.77
Lipford signed with UNC as a highly regarded prep prospect and earned immediate playing time, seeing action in 11 games and even starting once in 2010. He enjoyed his best collegiate season as a sophomore, emerging as the Tar Heels' starting strongside linebacker late in the year and recording 42 tackles, including 1.5 for loss. Lipford tore the ACL in his left knee in UNC's Independence Bowl loss to Missouri and missed the entire 2012 campaign. He returned to play at the Bandit linebacker position for the Tar Heels last season, generating six tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks among his 20 stops. Lipford's length and athleticism earned him the nickname "Freak" by teammates at North Carolina but he never developed as expected, in part due to average instincts. He is a fluid, explosive athlete with clear upside and therefore could warrant a late round selection if teams are comfortable with his medical report.
