The way it looked to me last night, it should be Boldin, Moore, Patton, Baldwin, Williams.

Me too

I didn't read the whole thread, but did anyone else notice that Moore had TWO balls hit him in the hands that he flat-out dropped? No other receiver did that. It's not acceptable. Still, looks like they're angling to keep him.

How does Williams just get a pass? Is he so good that he doesn't have to compete? Not from what I've seen. 3 years; mediocre numbers. There are going to be better receivers that don't make the cut just because he's a team veteran.

Patton looks the stud. Can anyone say "#2". Though he does lack blazing speed, he's a gamer with swag.

Baldwin surprised. It's a small sample, but if he does this consistently, he's #2 material also.

I fear for Collie. It doesn't look like he's being given the opportunity to make the squad. I still believe that he is better than Williams . . . as history bears out. But he looks out of luck.

The cuts will be interesting.

Patton and Moore looked like #1 guys out there with kaepernick. Man I am excited about a WR corps that a month ago I was dreading

Baldwin is not in anyway faster than Patton. In terms of game speed, Baldwin is great going straight down the field, but if you ask him to make cuts or go across the field, you might as well be using a sundial. Patton on the other hand plays pretty much at the exact same speed and his quickness is well beyond that of Baldwin.

One of Baldwin's biggest issues in KC was that he plays with heavy feet, he's a long strider, once he gets up to full speed, he makes for a decent downfield threat but if a DB bumps him off his route or if he has to move laterally, forget about it.

If you watched both Moore and Patton yesterday, both of of them played with very quick feet, they were off the line fast and moving laterally, were able to create separation with their quickness.

Don't know who is faster in a foot race, but Patton is so fluid that he is much more of a threat. Some WRs just have a knack of getting open, which is what I read about Patton before the draft. He is able to get off the LOS, get separation and place himself between the QB and the DB. Baldwin is better with the high ball but nothing else.

Quickness is more important than speed unless there is a huge difference...my speed would be very limiting. I was pleasantly surprised by the WRs yesterday!
Someone already said it, but I'm just going to add to it as well. With the 30th pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers selected Jon Baldwin.

Yes, I certainly noticed the two drops (one very low pass by CK) and the other sideline pass from McCoy. I think both were very catchable (if it hits your hands, right?). That said, both would have been pretty awesome catches.

I looked through this thread and it seems like people are still stuck on #1, #2, #3, #4, etc. We just aren't that type of offense. There will be times BOLDIN won't even be on the field; he'll also line up in the slot. We run packages. One theme I have seen from every single WR thus far (including Baldwin, already) is that they come into the game based on the package called by HaRoMan. And they all play ALL 3 WR positions. That is why Williams is higher up the chart b/c he can line up anywhere and knows all the plays (even those run out of the Q formation...or a drag-sprint like Hall yesterday). We just don't run a traditional WCO offense where Boldin is the #1, Baldwin is the #2 and Williams is the #3.

I would imagine, these are the positions the following players will play the "majority" of their packages from:

X = Marlon Moore/Jon Baldwin
Y = Kyle Williams/Chad Hall
Z = Anquan Boldin/Quinton Patton

But again, all these guys will play all 3 spots depending on the play (package) called.

We win
Good trade simply for the upside. That being said, Baldwin has always been a knucklehead, Maybe a change of scenery will help

We got Baldwin for one major reason jump balls we need someone to catch jump balls from kap, we have guys who can catch over the middle and run slants and Vd and McDonald also for things but not one guy is got size, jumping, catch range on this team, His only job is to be a big target and catch the ball running a go we have plenty of guys who can do everything else. So far looks better than A.J did can get off the line and hold onto the catch.
Baldwin caught a couple of passes that were the kinds of passes on Sunday you'd want a guy to catch in the red zone or to pick up a 1st down. They were quick passes in traffic, and he caught 'em both. I'm excited to see what he can do.

Manningham won't be ready; Kyle Williams isn't any good. I think Patton may be his primary competition for the #2 WR job until Manningham is back. Unless Moore beats 'em both out.

Hopefully, his experience in Kansas City, particularly Andy Reid's willingness to let him go so quickly, opened his eyes.

Boldin and the other players on the team will make it clear that it is his responsibility to improve his attitude and his game.

If he continues being a knucklehead, Harbaugh will kick his butt down the street.
After watching Matt Cassel on Sunday I have to say I'm a little more excited about Baldwin.

Just wait till he unleashes his anger on those deep jump balls on Browner, Sherman and Chancellor.

I'm with you Kronos. I'll settle for a loss in any other week except at home against the Seahawks if we can get a W week 2!!!
