I almost jizzed may pants when I seen him make that catch. Will be fun watching him rise up the depth chart.

that's an NFL catch right thurrr

I like the separation he gets!
That's good touch by McCoy too. He puts it in the only place Baldwin could have made the catch

Me too

I didn't read the whole thread, but did anyone else notice that Moore had TWO balls hit him in the hands that he flat-out dropped? No other receiver did that. It's not acceptable. Still, looks like they're angling to keep him.

How does Williams just get a pass? Is he so good that he doesn't have to compete? Not from what I've seen. 3 years; mediocre numbers. There are going to be better receivers that don't make the cut just because he's a team veteran.

Patton looks the stud. Can anyone say "#2". Though he does lack blazing speed, he's a gamer with swag.

Baldwin surprised. It's a small sample, but if he does this consistently, he's #2 material also.

I fear for Collie. It doesn't look like he's being given the opportunity to make the squad. I still believe that he is better than Williams . . . as history bears out. But he looks out of luck.

The cuts will be interesting.
Baldwin had a good game hope he builds from here
Two preseason catches vs a catch/fumble......already a win for Baalke
When Kyle Williams comes back he will become the number 2

The WR situation is going to be very fluid over the next 6-8 weeks.

Baldwin has the tools to be a stud. If he continues to play like he did last night, he will be the #2 behind Boldin. The leaping catch was what everyone was expecting but the first catch where reached low and behind him was more impressive to me. I expect him to get quite a few reps Thursday in SD and we will see more.

Williams is a nice slot receiver but is not going to be a #2 in any good passing offense. He is a #3 or #4 for good teams. I like him but he doesn't have the size/strength to battle in the middle or be a deep threat. I would like to compare him to a Wes Welker-type but more likely Danny Amendola, hopefully without the injuries.

Patton will compete for #4 or better but will take some time.

That kind of leaves Moore and an untested quantity at this point. Having been cut loose by a team that needs WRs it is hard to believe he is going to be a major player in this offense.

Though I am skeptical as to how good Manningham will be coming back but until we know, the above guys are going to get all the juice. I am going to predict Baldwin will find a home here with Harbaugh and be a presence. I won't go so far as to say "starter" because, other than Boldin, I don't see a true starting quality receiver right now. However, in this offense, with McDonald continuing to show why Baalke moved up to pick him, wide outs are going to have to show they are worth taking McDonald off the field. Therefore I see a lot of 2 TE sets with Boldin and one other wide out along with Miller and Gore in the backfield. Who that second WR is will be a developing situation week to week, IMO.
Later in the season, should everybody be healthy, I'd expect it to be Crabs/Boldin/Manningham/Baldwin/Patton

I don't see Patton falling Baldwin, I'd be shocked if Patton isn't starting opposite Boldin at some point this season.
is it me or does it suddenly feel like our wr depth isn't a problem at all anymore?
AJ didn't even have a cath for KC in their game this weekend. What a bust.

Yes. I agree.

A slow, short very good receiver is better than a tall, big-bodied good receiver, even if the good receiver is faster.

Not as big as it seemed at one point, but still a bit sketchy I would say. Boldin is the only player that has proven anything. Patton looks legit(maybe our #2?), Baldwin is a good #3 maybe,we know what KW possesses(slot #3), and that's about as far as I can go.

So yes, things are starting to pan out, but there are still question marks.

Baldwin is not in anyway faster than Patton. In terms of game speed, Baldwin is great going straight down the field, but if you ask him to make cuts or go across the field, you might as well be using a sundial. Patton on the other hand plays pretty much at the exact same speed and his quickness is well beyond that of Baldwin.

One of Baldwin's biggest issues in KC was that he plays with heavy feet, he's a long strider, once he gets up to full speed, he makes for a decent downfield threat but if a DB bumps him off his route or if he has to move laterally, forget about it.

If you watched both Moore and Patton yesterday, both of of them played with very quick feet, they were off the line fast and moving laterally, were able to create separation with their quickness.
