Nnamdi Asomugha was a 49er

There is no doubt in my mind if Nnamdi was the starter or the NB, he'd play great. However, Brock is currently getting all the reps at NB and he's playing well enough not to lose his job. Harbaugh LOVES versatility and unfortunately Nnamdi can't play STs which Cox can. I still have a feeling he will either be the odd man out or will be getting limited playing time. I think Brown starting at LCB, Nnamdi at RCB, and Rogers coming in on nickle situations would be the best for the team.

I think he's going to be great. Can't wait to see him manhandle some recievers and snatch a couple INTs

** It appeared as if the Chiefs and quarterback Alex Smith went into the game wanting to go after cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha. Smith looked his way six times. On four occasions, Smith went elsewhere because of Asomugha's good coverage. He did throw two passes to the receiver on Asomugha's side, but both passes were overthrown, again because of Asomugha's tight coverage.http://blog.sfgate.com/49ers/2013/08/18/nnamdi-asomugha-looks-good-lamichael-james-not-so-much-against-the-chiefs/
This was Nnamdi at his best this game and I noticed this very exact thing. Smith would look towards Nnamdi but than would have to go elsewhere with the ball.

You would think, but when you taking into consideration how well Cox has played, the team may want to go in that direction. If they feel comfortable with Brock and Cox as their 3rd and 4th CBs, why keep Nnamdi? I hope this isn't the case but Fangio and the crew prefer Brock as the NB at the current moment.

Cully is right, Nnamdi is a lock the way he is playing. If the team was comfortable with Cox, Brock etc playing behind Rogers/Brown then they wouldn't have signed Eric Wright even after Nnamdi. NA has looked good and will have a role on this team, I wouldn't be surprised if him or Wright end up taking Rogers' spot in the starting lineup at some point.

The 3rd preseason game will be very telling to see how much playing time our back up CBs get. Maybe the team gives Nnamdi a chance as the NB with Brown at LCB and he gets to solidify his role? Who knows, but we have to be encouraged with how our secondary has performed thus far.

mattbarrows: CB battle > WR battle ...@PFF_Jeff Nnamdi Asomugha and Tramaine Brock have combined for 70 snaps in coverage and allowed total of 23 yards.

Personally, with Brown sliding inside to the slot much more this year (per Fangio), I'd rather have Nnamdi out wide over Rogers. Cox can play outisde/inside (in nickle as well). Brown needs to work on his technique this year...keeping WR's in front of him and playing the QB/ball rather than WAITING for the ball to arrive in the WR's bread basket to make a play. The entire secondary needs to make an effort to defend some freaking passes and get SOME INT's.

I'm rooting like hell for Nnamdi. He's looking great despite his age. Our secondary was exposed after the Patriots game.

This could be one of the best signings of the year when all is said and done. Question is will they extend his contract if he returns to his pro-bowl form?!

I'm glad he's stepping up, and that we're putting Brown in the slot in nickel and dime packages as opposed to Rogers.
I currently have much less trepidation with our CB situation compared to our WR situation.

NA is a lock and I see him getting better and better as the season goes on. Especially since he doesn't have to play every down.
