The Aldon Smith thread

More good news for #49ers -- they're going to get Aldon at an unbelievably cut rate when they try to re-sign him, which you know they will.

I agree with everyone here.. 9 games seems a bit excessive. My hope is that he's expecting Aldon to appeal and when he does then he'll take the 5 games already missed and reduce it to a 4 game suspension.

Anyone know if this is even able to be appealed?

They better have some back room deal.
Will Aldon be in shape when he returns after nine games?
9 games is a very odd number. Suspiciously hes eligible to come back AFTER we play and nfc rival/playoff contender saints

I hope Goodell gets booed mercilessly at the home debut. What an impotent tool.

The 49ers should ban him from the stadium. That'd be awesome.
Goodell f'ed this up! Coward!
Just a complete utter joke. So because everyone's panties got in a bunch because of Ray Rice's situtation, Aldon has to pay the price despite checking into rehab last year. I really hope the PA fights this garbage.

Ditto. NFL has been looking pretty bad lately with the whole Ray Rice thing. They start heavy to retain their disciplinarian reputation, then allow an email which reduces the suspension based on the 5 games missed due to rehab. Seems like a public perception orchestration type thing, at least I hope that's what it is.

14 games actually.

Unfortunately, Goodell is trying to make an example out of aldon. He is trying to be this overbearing douche and send a message to all of the other players, saying " you guys better quit f**king" around "

I'm stunned. This idiot has just completely demolished any chance that players will seek treatment for substance abuse problems in the NFL. While Goodell turns a blind eye to the pain killer addiction that's rampant in the league. No future NFL player will ever check into rehab or partake in any sort of major efforts to turn their lives around, the incentive was just taken away. I'm sure if a person is sincerely wanting to turn their life around and quit drinking etc they'll do so but not immediately or during a season. Even if it's just for show and to minimize suspension time once in rehab, away from their normal routine and forced to face themselves, things can sincerely change for people. Lives can be saved. Not only the players but innocent lives. Goodell is an idiot. A complete and utter backwards thinking fool.

I don't agree. If a player needs rehab he needs rehab. Aldon didn't check into rehab to get a lesser sentence. Clearly Goodell didn't factor it in which in that case I understand your point. I just don't think it matters when it comes to your life.

I didn't say he did.I said even if a PLAYER does. Even if it is true that 's what motivated Aldon it doesn't matter. People with substance abuse issues will have their denial demolished once in rehab. They could be motivated to go because "there's hot chicks" there. It doesn't matter. A good rehab will get through to people more times than not. NFL players and anyone in any job in general, if they have substance abuse issues, should be encouraged to go to rehab not punished for it.

Appeal this s**t f**kin now. The team and Smith should call Goodell out now for lying since he obviously didn't take the 5 games he sat out last year.
