Signing Manning completely derails the mentality of the team. We've built a team first mentality and bringing Manning in would send a terrible message to the locker room. Not to mention Manning thinks he has a solid 4 years left and would want the security of a 3 or 4 year no matter where he signs. He's a QB who actually deserves that $28M bonus and unless he is desperate to play he'll want a 4 year $50M deal for 12.5M a year. His agent will call that monstrous deal a bargain because its exactly half of the amount his mega deal in Indy is worth.

Delusional is the 49ers getting PManning. This sounds like an acid trip from way back when.
keep in mind guys, we wouldn't need peyton to be the best QB in the league.

we will still run the ball, still dominate on defense.

we just need an accurate QB who we can count on to convert on 3rd downs. all we need is an above average offense.

how many times has alex smith been to the pro bowl?

If we are gonna pay him 20 Million a f**king year he better play like the best QB in the league

What he said, times INFINITY.

Schefter is absolutely right. Not a friggin' change Peyton comes here.

I agree but that neck injury is just to risky to mess around with. I would love for them to go after Manning but I doubt it happens. I hope it does, But it's all about his health, and at what point will he be healthy. He might not be ready til half way through training camp

Folks are really slighting Peyton just b/c he hasn't played this year. when he's lightning it up next year for whoever folks will be right back on his nuts.
Peyton would be at least $10M in salary for 2012, possibly bigger yearly average. It would be tough then to retain a combination of Rogers, Goldson, Brooks, Morgan, Ginn, Snyder

Plus we will tender RFAs CJ Spillman and Larry Grant, Grant could get the 2nd round tender offer(There's no 3rd Round tender).

IMO our FAs will ask for following average wise.

Alex- between $8M and $10M a year

Morgan- between $2M and $3M a year

Ginn- between $2M and $3M a year

Goldson- between $6M and $8M a year

Rogers- between $6M and $8M a year

Brooks- between $3M and $5M a year

Snyder- between $3M and $5M a year

Then we have our draft class to sign, plus our FAs like Costanzo, Gooden, then Spillman and Grant.
Even if he is healthy he is going on 37 and it will be a year and a half since he's played which scares me.
It is negligent IMO to not even attempt to sign Manning if he appears to be able to play. a spot like Arizona or Seattle would do wonders with a real QB and we could have a real tough division really quick.
Come on folks. Putting all our money on a 36 year old QB that has had three SERIOUS neck surgeries is stupid. Yes, the guy is a hall of famer, but I'm not willing to invest so much on a player that could possibly hang them up as soon as he gets sacked.

Stick with Alex and Kaep who will have a full offseason with our coaching staff and two full seasons with the playbook.
......Don't listen to Schefter.

I dunno if Manning ends up in SF....

....but The Niners can't beat any of the big QBs either - Uh Eli Manning (first game), Brees, Vick. Harbaugh wouldn't want to go to the Niners hen they have no talent - Except he did and they do.

These guys don't really know anything. They are just filling space when NOBODY knows.

It isn't 2005 anymore.

All his baggage? LOL.. I hope you just mean his neck injury. If healthy he is >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Alex Smith and it isnt even close. Peyton Manning doesnt have baggage. The guy is a leader, studies the game as much as anyone, and would be an asset to almost any team in this league.

Injury YES Baggage HARDLY

Never thought he'd come here anyway. Actually, I never had the slightest thought it COULD happen. If Manning plays again, he'll stay in the AFC. Same goes for Drew Brees.

Agreed. I think he stays on the East Coast if he comes back at all. Washington??? I could see that.
