Thoughts on Joshua Morgan?

he is a good number two but is no number one. I think we know the niners will get one rookie at least and some type of free agent,. The wild card is crabtree. I think the coaches will keep a close eye on him this off season. what he does or does not go in regards to being a team player in mini camps, off season workouts, ota's etc. is key on whether or not he gets brought back. we have a full off season with the same coaches and i have a feeling if crabtree does not show a good hard working team ethic we know that this coach will show him where the bear s**ts

Delanie is not without usefulness, but he would be vastly inferior to what I think Fleener could quickly develop into.

Walker has inconsistent hands... he runs a good wheel route and blocks well as a shifting FB type, but he's not a remarkable offensive weapon IMHO.

If the idea of having Vernon Davis AND Jimmy Graham doesn't excite you, then color me shocked...and that's the weapon I think Fleener just may compare well to.

I want Josh Morgan back. He was playing really well up until the point he got hurt. Easily the best WR on the team through the first 5 weeks.

He's not slow. He's just fast enough to play WR. He's not quick. But has size. Here's his numbers... very decent:

Morgan dropped in the draft due to injury and character issues (arrested for disorderly conduct and obstructing justice). He has been a model team mate for the niners from what I've read.

I did. He seemed locked in to smith and the offense. Hopefully he comes back stronger and ready to roll. It would be great if he stepped up to that same level of productivity for a season. If morgan were healthy and as productive as he was early it would be great. 5 games=15 220 1. It's really only 3 per game but the yardage is good and he seemed to be coming more and more into the game plan. The Philly and Tampa games were solid.

These are not HUGE numbers but lightyears more than any other wideout other than crabtree this season. Ideally he steps up that production. At the least it helps out crabtree and opens up the slant route again. At best he's part of a three wideout tandem with some new blood in the mix.

Yes. Morgan's work ethic and team attitude has been impeccable.

If Josh Morgan played the rest of the season after the Bucs game, guarantee he'll become an elite WR!

He's also a huge blocker in the run game. Looking forward to having him back.

Yes, and Crabtree did a good job blocking this year. Down field blocking really helped this team a lot, as evidenced on Smith's TD versus NO.

JM would have been key down the stretch. He was building game by game. The work he put in during the offseason was showing and his loss was major to the offense. He definitely needs to be back for 2012............

I went 'Huh?' when he said he was the leading receiver on the team, but he was actually right. We need you back to the Niners to make the team and Crabtree better. We can win the SB with Joshua Morgan! Unselfish personality. May not be a game breaker at WR but plays smartly like Ed McCaffery. And just as important to Smith's passing as McCaffery was to John Elways. He will be Mr. 3rd Conversion for us next year.

It was 220 yds in 5 games, which amounts to around 700 yds if he kept the 40 yd/game pace. Not bad for a 3rd receiver. But the fact that that was our leading receiver by week 5 goes more to show how bad our passing game was more than how good morgan was. His best games were the blowout in tampa and the 4th quarter comeback in philly.

I like him, bring him back, but I don't expect him to be the solution to our 3rd down woes or our passing game in general.

I really want Josh back. I am under no illusion that he wil solve all of our WR problems, but he should be affordable due to the injury. It seemed to me as though Josh was really starting to develop. He is a smart player and he seems to have good chemistry with Alex. I think those abilities would really have helped on third downs.

I alos really like the message above. I like the confidence, it shows that he love this team, and I can certianly appreciate that.

No. Crabtree outplayed Morgan in his first and second years and again this year I think even if Morgan stayed healthy he would've. It's really not close. Crabtree is a starter, and would be on most teams. Morgan would not start over most other teams' #2 (Such as Burress - NYJ, Simpson - CIN, Jones - ATL, Bryant/Robinson - DAL, Brown - PIT, Garcon - IND, Maclin - Phi, Moore - OAK, Nelson - GB, Breaston - KC, Branch - NE, Cruz/Manningham - NYG... and several other teams)

In 49 career games for Morgan: 131 receptions, 1764 yards, 9 TD
In 43 career games for Crabtree: 175 receptions, 2240 yards, 12 TD
