However, part of the issue is quaterbacking and holding the ball a little too long ... part of that was the WR and the type of offense that we ran.
It wasn't marginal... We're talking about 3rd worst and 7th best.
I don't think the discrepancy can be explained away that easily.
Especially when you add in the fact that the Seahawks threw the ball significantly more often (14th overall vs 22nd overall) than the 49ers.
Sorry, man... I really watched the statistics closely during the season and it was consistent between both our QBs, too.... The hits stayed at the same rate, but Alex took less sacks, that was the only difference.
You really just need to watch the play that caused Smith's shoulder injury to see how absolutely inept our line was.
I will admit that they improved towards the end of the season, but I'm not convinced it wasn't because of the level of competition. The Chargers destroyed our line in the middle of slow, but steady improvement.
Hass took far less hits, no matter which way you look at it, yet he still missed time with injury. It is a problem with him as a potential FA.
Hopefully I'm wrong and our line learns to pass block. Either way, Hass doesn't sound like the best option. However, like I said... all options have their warts.
I'll trust in Harbaugh to make the right decision for the team.
You can make an argument on whether Smith or Hasselbeck is our best option going forward and you can make an argument on why neither of them is as well. Signing both will, while giving us competition, also cause a big QB controversy rift for our team.
I guess the question I have, is that with a new HC and a pretty young team can we handle that?
I believe Alex already said he'd be fine with it. I don't think Hass is the type of dude to cause division, but I don't know much about him.
Have to defer to Harbaugh on that one again. Not really sure.
Yea if we do this Harbaugh will have a decision to make. The only thing that makes me happy is that: IT IS NOT SINGLETARY making it. "Will have to look at the film"

Hasselbeck would be good cover if Smith goes down or doesnt perform leaving Kapps right out of it so he can continue his first year of just observing.
What I dont like about Hasselbeck coming to the 9ers is that SeaHawks and the rest of the division already know what he can and can not do. Hawk matches would either be an ass kicking or every close game.

Wouldn't mind this move one bit.
Compete with Alex and mentor Colin Kaepernick the same time.

So after 7 years of futility ya'll wanna just give the job to Smith?
I don't care who they bring in, but Smith has not proven he DESERVES anything. There's plenty of nice guys who never even made an NFL squad

I guess being far away as possible from the NFC West was something he wanted to do after the SeaChickens rejected him.

They offered him 1 yr/7 million, that could escalate to about double that.
He said no.

Looks like Hasselback is going to Tennessee. I'm going to lock this thread, so we can move the discussion there.
