I'll just throw out some of the better UDFA's. They should go like quick once the deal gets signed so I hope we are ready. A lot of good players out there. Hopefully one of these guys ends up on the roster or at least practice squad.

QB:
Pat Devlin
Scott Tolzien
Adam Froman
Taylor Potts

FB:
Henry Hynoski

WR:
Terrance Toliver
Ricardo Lockette
Dane Sanzenbacher
DeAndre Brown
Jeff Maehl

OL:
Tim Barnes - C
Jake Kirkpatrick - C
Zach Hurd - G
Derek Hall - G/T
Kris O'Dowd - C
Zane Taylor - C/G
Chase Beeler - C/G

3-4 NT:
Ian Williams
Anthony Gray

3-4 LB:
Alex Wujciak, ILB
Mark Herzlich, ILB/OLB
Steven Friday, OLB
Thomas Keiser, OLB

CB:
Kendrick Burney

S:
Deunta Williams
Joe Lefeged
DeAndre McDaniel
Jeron Johnson

I like a lot of these guys but I really think we might only sign Froman, Beeler and Hall/Keiser.

I'd keep the guys you suggested, then add Hynoski(FB), Locket (WR), and either of the NT's...

Carson Palmer? not really a backup though!

If you just want a Vet Tavaris Jackson is out there. the vikes ran some form of the WCo.

Jackson and Alex IMO are somewhat cut from the same cloth as far as talent goes. Although T. Jackson would be a slight improvement, I wouldn't call him a WCO journeyman by any means...but most likey knows it better than Alex. Hopefully Kaep is lighting it up by midseason regardless of who his mentor is going to be.

Hope to god we get Jonathan Joseph, then the rest IMO should be UDFA's. Then next year really start to re-build the Harbaugh way, unless of course hes fine with the roster now.

Ian Williams
Kendrick Burney
Deunta Williams
Craig Cooper
Terrance Toliver
Adam Froman
DeAndre McDaniel
Armon Binns

Would love to see these guys make our roster or our practice squad.

Absolutely not.... especially if we let Lawson and Franklin go. If we keep them and only get some UDFA's we still have holes and some glaring weak spots. We let them go and we have a weaker team than the 6-10 team last year most likely. We will be relying on Alex's improvement and the coaching improvement (with little time to install) to make up the losses of those guys. We would also be counting on a lot of young guys to step up.

If we resign most of our guys and let Franklin and Lawson go we better sign 2 outside FA's (CB/DL). If we sign one or the other I would be fine with just a CB.

I'd prefer to resign most of our guys and Franklin while getting a solid CB.

Will command a big contract and he'll get it from the highest bidder no doubt. I'd target like this:

1. J. Joseph
2. Richard Marshall
3. Carlos Rogers
4. Ike Taylor

If not, I'd take my chances with what's on the roster and look to make a splash next year when this CBA crap is outta the way.

Good call oldman, forget about him. Wonder if he could play the nose? Otherwise, I just don't see us breaking the bank for him or Jenkins to play DE when I assume McDonald will be back for much cheaper. Bigger needs but still our team would be a lot better with one of those guys.

I really think he fits well at NT in a 3-4 1-gap role, G21.

Mebane is much like Ray as far as being efficient in getting off the snap quickly, having an extremely high motor, and having the COD and hands to penetrate. Difference is, Mebane is much more stout and disciplined vs the run game.

I think he would make us quickly forget about Franklin.

yup, I'm up in Seattle, and people here are pretty furious that he was not locked down. He was their best D lineman last year. He pressures the QB very well, which would set the table for the outside guys, if they ever get free. As other posters said before, he is also stout against run blocking, then he shows the violent hands to shed blocks to make tackles at the point of attack and the motor and agility to pursue down the line to make tackles outside of his gap responsibility. His play makes me thnk of a larger, more physically gifted Justin Smith (In style, not necessarily energy; he can't reproduce that same intensity and motor, but who can?)
Lance Moore would be a nice speedy WR for the offense.

If the Saints are stupid enough to give him the desire to walk with a low-ball offer, SF would be very fortunate to get him. I have wanted Moore on this team for a couple of years now. He would easily be our best (most proven) wide receiver. Great route runner, rarely drops a thing, and can work the middle of the field, no prob.
