if Bulger is protected and has talent around him he's one of the better QBs in the league. I'd honestly prefer to see McNabb though, he was trashed in Washington pretty unfairly. Would love to see him turn his career around in SF

I agree. People need to understand that any QB we go for is going to have a knock on him. If they didn't, their current team wouldnt have let them walk. I'm confident that Harbaugh and Co will investigate every opportunity to its fullest. That includes McNabb. I think if we had McNabb we would dominate the NFC West, while grooming a QB for a year or two. That is perfect scenerio, imo.

Of course Kolb and Alex Smith came up and were thrown into the debate. I hate to mention it, but there were some guys who were really making the case that Smith should be their guy. They were dragging out many of the same stats that have been scrutinized here. Many agreed that Alex seemed to perform better during recent years than Kolb or Bulger, especially considering the strength of their coaches and supporting casts.
Just saying.
i would be so damn upset if a 26 yr old alex smith finds the light and becomes a really good qb in az. i wouldnt be surprised if he does turn the corner in a place like az if they fix that garbage oline

I hope they do sign Smith... That be two easy wins for the 49ers..

Bulger is not good. He will continually have Bryant Young Syndrome...he'll keep looking towards his back still feeling Bryant's breath coming at him.

I don't want Bulger either... he had some good years with Bruce and Holt but those guys are two potential HOF WRs. His last three years he threw 27 TDs to 34 TDs and seemed like he was just beat up. Maybe a year off helps but I still think there is better out there.

Who exactly? You need to name him.
Hasselback? Yes, probably. If he is available.
Kolb? Cannot compare to Bulger in the sense that he'll be an expensive acquisition.
Same for Palmer.
The Niners need a stop gap (assuming that they land a QB and Kolb is not their long term solution). Bulger and Hasselback are the best options IMO.

You're being too dismissive.
Under your scenario, the Niners and Cardinals would be significantly upgraded. Both teams should immediately improve their respective records. If the Niners were to continue to "suck ass" with Hasselback at QB, then you can be pretty sure that Harbaugh is not the answer at HC. It's possible that is the case. So is that what you're saying?
Also remember this is a STOP GAP measure, while the team sorts out its long term QB solution.

Hasleback did not have a good season by any means last year, he played good in the playoff game vs. The sleeping saints but dude is not going to stay healthy at all and when was the last time bulger started a game?
We need to draft a rookie and go after a Palmer, kolb,or orton if we want to make any real noise next year.
