Where does Alex Smith end up?

I could see him going to the Colts or Pats. Somewhere stable where he can sit and completely master a system, study under a great QB a la Steve Young and be an heir apparent. Bill POlian liked him and I could see him in INdy more than anything. Unless he's set on starting somewhere which would be a mistake. He'd end up in another crappy situation and fail.

I bolded the teams that I see making a serious attempt to sign him. I still see Minn signing him but now Tenn is a strong possibility as well.

If Minnesota hire Singletary to be their LB coach, you best believe Frazier will get his advise on Smith and I'm not so certain it will be good enough for the Vikings to bring him in.

We all know what Singletary thought of Alex's leadership skills, or lack there of so I don't see Minnesota being a strong possiblity anymore.

Definitely TENN though but that wouldn't be a good situation for Alex (defensive minded atmosphere).
Tennessee has Mike Heimerdinger as OC and he is very good. Trouble with that is that he has cancer, though it is in remission, it raises doubts.

Jeff Fisher, though a defensive guy, is a veteran coach who has been able to keep things in good balance over the years. I don't see the same problem there as with Nolan/Sing.

If Heimerdinger were fully healthy, it would be a great spot. Chris Johnson demands a lot of attention and would make play action a strong part of the game. Kenny Britt is the real deal as a #1 pass receiver - something Alex never had here.
All in all, that could be a good place for him to land.

At the bolded......you being serious

Kenny Britt - 2010 42 Catches 775 yards 9 TD's (in Heimerdinger's system)
2009 42 Catches 701 yards 3 TD's

Crabtree - 2010 55 Catches 741 yards 6 TD's (horrible offense system)
2009 48 Catches 625 yards 2 TD's (Jimmy Raye system)

So explain to me how Kenny Britt, playing in an OC's system who is "very good" (your words) is the "real deal #1 Pass receiver" but Michael Crabtree who has played in a HORRIBLE offensive system (everyone agrees on that), yet has put up VERY SIMILAR numbers is not "the real deal #1 pass receiver that Alex never had" cmon guys...let's be real

And if Kenny Britt is the "real deal #1 WR that Alex never had", with the numbers he has produced, how was Antonio Bryant NOT the "real deal #1 WR that Alex never had" when he put up similar numbers to Kenny Britt back in 2006 with:

13 games 40 catches 733 yards and 3 TD's..

So it looks like he HAS had, according to your criteria (Kenny Britt numbers) a "real deal #1 WR" TWICE.......................

P.S. Josh Morgan even had similar numbers to Kenny Britt

Josh Morgan- 2010 46 Catches 698 yards 2 TD's

Kenny Britt was also the leading receiver (TE's and WR's) with 42 catches on Tennessee. Crabtree, while having MORE catches than Britt was not even the leading guy, Vernon Davis was so Crabtree being the 2nd option on our team (some may say 3rd option because of how often Alex quickly dumped it off to Gore but that is neither here nor there) had better numbers than the 1st option on Tennessee. But Kenny Britt, playing in a "better offensive system" is "the real deal #1 WR that Alex Smith never had"......

Cmon man..Your much better than that dj43, MUCH MUCH better. cmon, let's get it together

I think he's right in saying that Alex never really had a true #1 WR.

I wouldn't put Britt on a different level than Crabtree though. Neither are legit #1 receivers just yet, but likely will be as they continue to develop.

Antonio Bryant was not a legit #1 WR when he was with us. Sure he had talent, but he never really put it all together until he grew up after being out of the entire 2007 season. Good for him... he came back in 2008 a man possessed and played very well for TB. But he was not THAT guy in 2006.

Britt was a rookie last year, still learning his craft. This year he blossomed but missed 4 games due to injury and played hurt in 3 others. Don't be fooled by the numbers. This guy is a legit number 1. He has improved his speed and strength this past season. When he was hurt, defenses closed down on Chris Johnson and the Titans struggled.

Bryant, for about half the season, was a threat. After that he quit. He led the league in passes throw to him that were intercepted, mostly due to this lack of will to go up and fight for the ball.

Interestingly enough, Bud Adams has told the GM there to go find a new QB for next year. All the common names, McNabb, Orton, Kolb, are being mentioned there just as they are here. McNabb is questioned due to his age and drop off in performance the last two years. Orton and Kolb will require a draft pick or player in trade and no one is willing to pay what their teams are asking.

I have my reasons for asking, but what type of contract can Alex Smith expect from one of these QB-needy teams in FA?
I know I'm in the minority here but I'm real curious to see what Harbaugh could do with Smith.

... and yet you posted in this thread.... which is actually less than being useless and not posting at all.
With Harbaugh on board- He might just stay (providing harbaugh wants him)..
He'll be a Cardinal

Crabtree was a rookie last year who missed OTA's, training camp, pre-season and 5 games in the NFL and still came out and put together a better year than Britt. This year, being the 2nd option on the 49ers, still had 55 catches in a HORRIBLE offensive system. Britt plays under a much more competent Offensive Coordinator and yeah he did miss 4 games due to injury. So Crabtree missed 5 games as a ROOKIE in Jimmy Rayes offense and still put together similar numbers as Britt did this year (his 2nd year in the NFL and under a competent OC) so I fail to see your logic in that Britt is a legit #1 guy and Crabtree somehow isn't

Some of yall are worse on Crabtree than the "Alex Haters" are on Alex and that is ridiculous. The man has been in the NFL for 2 years and everyone wants to blame the coaching staff on Alex for ALL 6 YEARS but then turn around and say a man who plays under the same BS coaching staff (throw Sullivan in there as INEPT) and he STILL MAKES PLAYS after missing SIGNIFICANT off-season time (injury and hold out) is not legit???

Then throw out a guys name and say he is the real deal but when I bring stats and production into the picture, justify it by saying he missed games due to injury and played injured in 3 other games but not even take into account that he was there for EACH OTA's, training camp AND Pre-season while Crabtree wasn't and is producing off of basically just "winging it" on Sundays? You are crazy if you think that will fly.

How about this. Kenny Britt had 42 catches in 11 games which means he is averaging 3.9 catches per game. Over a 16 game season that leaves him with 62.4 (7 more catches than Crabtree as the #1 target with Crabtree being 2nd option on our team). NOT IMPRESSED

In contrast to that, Crabtree missed 5 games AS A ROOKIE, and still put together more catches per game (4.4) than Kenny did in both of his seasons in the NFL

Get out of here with that. I've heard it all now
