Not possible due to the fact we resigned him to the mini 2 year deal. All the major busts are out of the league within 2-3 years max. A La JaMarcus Russel, Akili Smith, Tim Couch. Sure Akili and Couch has 1 or 2 twilight years moonlighting as a back up or practice squad guy but everyone knew they were already done. Alex is well regarded around the league and every other team in the league might dump a guy just to sign him.

Carolina - Smith is better then both Clausen and Pike(put tony and practice squad and demoted Clausen to 3rd stringer and let Alex start until Luck is 100% ready) Backup but easily a stopgap.
Denver Broncos - If the new hc ships out Orton or Tebow or Quinn he has an opening there. I doubt the new guy keeps all 3 of them. Possible starter, definite backup
Cinncy - We all think Palmer is gone and consequently that means his brother is too, if your not good enough to take over the redskins qb job in 07 how good can you be. Roster spot open. Possible starter, definite backup
Buffalo - He is just as good as Fitzpatrick if not better. Easily a back up there. Definite backup but could challenge
Cleveland - The Jake Delhomme experiment is over and Seneca will be out if Holmgren leaves for a hc gig. Spot open there. Backup.
Cardinals - Eventually Whiz will realize Max Hall isn't that good. If you we're going to use a pick on Skelton you clearly think he is better then Hall. He could be the vet to give both of those QBs time to develop.
Washington Redskins - McNabb is out, Rex Grossman is horrible and John Beck is one of the Dolphins failed picks. Possible starter, definite backup.
Titans - Kerry Collins is either retiring or coming back for one more year. VY is either out or in depending on Fisher. Rusty Smith, he is 1 contract backup in the NFL. Backup at least.
9ers - Harbaugh could = at least a half of a season more of Alex until rookie is ready to play.
Minnesota - No more Favre, Tavaris wants out. Probable starter, definite backup.
Houston Texans - Dan Orvlosky is a sneaky guy. Hanging out behind Shaub like that. Leinart wants out so he could go the way of Leinart and 3rd string it for a year.
Detriot Lions - Drew Stanton might actually be signed in FA by another team and Stafford might be the only other guy in the league with a shoulder made of more glass then Alex's.
Dallas Cowboys - Kitna made his case for the primary backup job for a few more years but Jones could opt for a younger guy. At least 3rd stringer here.
Rams - Smith is younger then A.J. Feeley and if they have a system that caters to Bradford's spread background Alex could fit.
Seattle - Hasselbeck is old and broken and Whitehurst showed he is barely capable of consistency. Easily start here.
Miami - Maybe they will get it right this time around and give the new qb a year to chill. Easily a starter as a stopgap.
Oakland - Gradkowski is another guy who did good enough to leave in FA. Minimum backup but with Campbell's up and down play he could start
Jacksonville - Garrard is old and barely does enough to keep his gig, and Alex is definitely better the Edwards and Baumen. Possible starter.
San Diego - I actually don't know SD's qb behind Rivers but I'm sure Norv would dump him in favor of Alex.
Tampa - Probably the only team in the league I can't see any possibility of Alex going there. Unless we trade for Josh Johnson LOL.
Eagles - Kolb might get traded this year and Vick will get smashed again be out a few weeks, minimum backup.
Giants - Eli doesn't play well enough for another qb not named Manning to keep his job but Alex could easily oust Sage Rosenfels for primary backup.
KC - All I have to say is Brody Croyle......Everyone on this forum would agree that Alex is better then him. Definitely a backup.
Indy - Manning is getting old and we've all seen how bad Curtis Painter is. Alex could definitely backup Peyton.
Green Bay - Oh the irony of it but Smith could backup Rodgers. Flynn is too good so Alex would be settling for a 3rd stringer role here.
Jets - Mark Brunnel is getting a little old. Alex could be Sanchez's back up next year.
New Orleans - Who backs up Brees? Chase Daniel? Lol.....Alex could probably challenge for backup.
Chicago - Uh.....Todd Collins or Alex Smith? I'll take Alex Smith.
Pittsburgh - Dixon might actually leave in FA and Batch is horrible. I am so amazed the Steelers were 3-1 without Ben. Definitely a primary backup.
Baltimore - Marc Bulger is another hot vet FA. Alex could replace him behind Flacco.
Alanta - If Atlanta doesn't have to shakeup the depth chart the wont. Not here.
New England - I don't know who Brady Hoyer is but I bet Alex could challenger for #2 here. Backup

Yes I made you read all of that, but to those of you who don't want to read it there are 2 teams I don't see Alex signing with and neither of them are named the 49ers. 30/32? Hardly a bust if he has 90% of the league interested in him and probably 10-15 of those teams he could be the starter on within a year. You can't really call him a bust for that. Not to mention the entire league would agree with the assessment that the blame is 75% 9ers 25% Alex -- Maybe 60/40 but the organization failed him immensely and everyone knows it.

No. He's a bust.
I think he will be San Diego's Pop Warners coach of the year!

A bust from the perspective that he isn't the franchise QB he should've been? Yes.

A bust from the perspective that he isn't/can't be a decent player? He had an 82 QB rating this year, which is decent. There are times when he looks like he's a step away from being a franchise QB, and then there are other times you think he'll only ever be a backup. I think a fresh start as a backup under an established QB like Manning or Brady for a few years would do him good. When that established QB retires, I expect Alex Smith to light it up... to everyone's surprise.

But most importantly. Alex Smith failed to live up to the name of "San Francisco 49ers Starting QB." We didn't help him in the 6 years he was here, but he never became anything in the 6 seasons he was here either.

Jesus Christ man, your not gonna convince anybody he is a decent QB when a lot of us can see with our own two eyes he sucks.

I could honestly see him back here... A rookie will take time to develop. Carr is garbage. Troy Smith isn't the answer. Nate Davis still won't know the playbook after 3 years of study...

I was happy he wasnt going to be on the team next year bu today it hit me we have NOTHING on this team people cant say that Troy is better than Alex when he clearly is not. The sad thing is there isnt anyone who is better than Alex, Fitz aint going to be traded and I actually dont think Orton is better than Alex so ugh

Whatever. I think he's decent. Doesn't matter though, he's gone. I PERSONALLY think he's going to find success, but the only thing that matters to us 49ers fans is that he failed. The expectation of a QB drafted as a #1 overall pick is to lead the team to the playoffs and/or A BUNCH of Pro Bowls. Alex never got us anywhere to that, and I'll wholeheartedly agree that he busted in that regard.

Arizona, Seattle, Minnesota, or Miami if he wants to start. If he is fine with being a back-up I could see him backing up Peyton in Indy.
throw the Titans in the mix now for Alex Smith to go start as well.
The Jets? He's got a better QB rating than the Sanchize (by 6!).

Seriously though, I could see Arizona and Minnesota taking a look at him. I think he and Vince Young are about on equal footing at this point, keeping in mind the off-field crap.

Check the Jet boards. They have been calling for a better backup to put pressure on Sanchez to improve. They are not at all satisfied with him.
Carolina Panthers
He will be wearing Purple next year, just a hunch
Carolina (seriously)
