Played astounding today. Agree he would be good for a while.
Good till his hip goes out? Ribs? Back? No thanks. There are plenty of other mediocre guys available to use until Harbaugh gets his guy.

He's a good QB. But why would he come here? Maybe Seattle will offer him again.

I remain strongly against. One great game doesn't override a horrible season. His numbers are still worse than Smith's despite far better coaching and facing far worse competition.

Yep..this. Tim Rattay, Ken Dorsey, f**king anybody...f**k Matt Hasselbeck and I hope he never comes near the 49ers.
Still feel this way. He's extremely consistent. We need to draft a young QB and let him learn the playbook...but start a GOOD QB.
I'd be content w/ drafting Gabbert and then signing McNabb. We have the opportunity to WIN next season is why I say sign a veteran QB...if we didn't have that shot I'd do what St. Louis did w/ Bradford and throw him right in there.

I live just south of Seattle and can tell you he has slowly declined in play since Jim Zorn left to coach the redskins and it got really bad once Holmgren left. If we get a good QB coach he'd be the perfect guy to learn under till our new QB is ready.
I think he's resign with Seattle though. He has said may times he wants to finish his career up here, as long as the Hawks are moving upward. I think he just earned an extension today.

Probably, if he's willing to accept serious competition for the starting job. I'm sure Carroll will bring in a bigger threat than Charlie Whitehurst.

No Matt Please!! He's to old I would rather have Mcnabb. With our weapons if Sing would have went after Mcnabb we would had a chance to beat the saints as well. All we need was one win. We would have beat the Rams, Panthers, Saints, Seahawks the first time etc.
Hasselbeck can't run into the endzone withour pulling a muscle!!!!

Yeah I'd say there are three choices.
1) Draft a QB and start him right away.
2) Acquire a vet to be our starter.
3) Draft a QB and acquire a vet as a stop gap.
If Luck isn't coming out I don't know that option 1 is a good idea as the rest of those QB's are probably better off sitting at first.
Option two could always happen. Sounds like we're going to run the WCO so of course it would make some sense to bring in a WCO QB. Vick is a FA but I can't imagine him going anywhere. I'm sure the Eagles will pay him and he'd be a fool to walk away from a team he's having the most success of his career with. Kolb has a year left on his contract and I think it's a relatively low salary. However I've also read the Eagles would want two first rounds for him. I'm thinking they'd probably come down from that but how much do you give up for a guy who, while he does have promise, had a lower QB rating than A Smith. I guess you could make the argument that McNabb would fit here, and he probably is a tweener between foreseeable starter and stop-gap guy. But in my mind he's more of the later.
Drafting a QB but acquiring a stop-gap guy would be my choice, but who do we get? I'd argue if you go this route you want a guy whose already played in a WCO system. Why bring in a retread who also has to deal with a larger learning curve? Also a field general who's already familiar with the type of offense being installed should make it easier for the rest of the lineup to pick things up more quickly. Lastly just because a QB has had success in other systems doesn't mean he can thrive as a WCO QB, (not that that's impossible if he has the right attributes). So that being said I'd say Hasselback could be serviceable for us if he needs work next season (and can stay healthy). McNabb would probably be the best QB I can think of, with the right criteria and who might need a job next season. I'd pass on Palmer since he's never to my knowledge played in the WCO and isn't anymore impressive at this point in his career than Hassleback or McNabb. But we might not be in a spot where we can be choosey. As we all know A. Smith has a little experience with the WCO, (as well as a few others). But I agree of it's time for him to have some new scenery and for up to see a fresh face throwing the ball.
Also I'd rather wait until the second day and take a flier than reach for a QB on day one. Especially if the guy we reach for doesn't fit. (anyone remember Jim Drunkenmiller?) Of course when David Carr is the only guy you have under contract I can understand that that's hard to stick to.

Great read. I see some chance that Seahawks let him go but it is not likely after he won a playoff game. While I agree he is injury prone he knows the west coast in and out. Alex smith cannot make the throws he can and does not have his accuracy or vision. You have to limit his crossing patterns because he doesn't see LBers well but besides that would be a great stopgap and hurt seahawks as well.
My top stopgaps would be,
Hasselbeck
McNabb

Hasselbeck looked good in the Wild Card round. I'd love to have him as our stop gap. He's got another 2 years left in him.

I wouldn't mind him as a stop gap, but i think Seattle will re-sign him.

He did enough in the playoffs to keep his job in Seattle until they groom his successor. Don't think that Whitehurst or Davis are the guy, but they may be in a position to get local boy Jake Locker if he falls in the draft.

Matt Hasselbeck would be my plan B if McNabb is not available. He played well in the playoffs considering he has few weapons.
Doubt Seattle lets him just walk away.
