IMO, there is zero chance Palmer would get cut. Even though he has not played all that well the last three years, the new HC will not want to come in without some continuity at QB while developing a future replacement.

Cincy is in roughly the same situation as the 49ers - they are not satisfied with what they have but have no one better to replace him.

There is one reason why Palmer gets cut.............his $11.5 Million price tag for next season. That is going to be tough to swallow unless they re-negotiate his contract.

The bold is the answer. Palmer knows he has not justified that level of salary and will re-negotiate. He knows he won't get anything close to that from any other team.

It will also depend on who replaces Lewis, if indeed he is let go.

So yes, there is a chance but the 49ers will have to pay a premium salary to get him because other QB hungry teams will run the bidding up above his true value. He will get a 3-4 year deal with some guarantees that will restrict the chance to re-sign other guys like Lawson.

He'll be a veteran backup next year if he's not brought back to Seattle as their starter to groom a high round rookie QB.
No way n he'll I'd sign him and let him mentor our rookie qb( which should be luck) but he can mentor from the sidelines while luck plays
fuk hasselbeck...he cant fart without his back going out
I definitely don't want it to happen, but it's a possibility...

Strong bump
He's playing lights out right now. I was always okay with this idea while we develop a young QB.

Played astounding today. Agree he would be good for a while.
