How would you rebuild the 9ers if we do horribly this year and fall apart?

1- I'd resign some of our core players first(those up for FA).. I'd esp. keep Goldson and Manny.
2- Fire Jimmy Raye..Infuse some innovation in our Offense.Offense looks a lot like last year.
3- Drop Sims, Wragge, and Snyder. Relegate Chilo to a 3rd. Guard position(do yall believe me now ?, after yesterday he shouldnt be starting). I'd replace those guys with solid lunchpail vets and find a kevin gogan/ Steve Wisnewski dirty mauler type RG). Im so f@ckin sick of people like Brandon Mebane destrying our OL!
4- Drop M.Lewis, Brown, and Clements- Brown is over-rated( again do yall believe me now ?), replace him with a vet FA, draft Clements replacement, and replace Lewis in-house.
5- Drop/trade Parys Haralson- Overated, slow, and we need a more dynamic presence here.

I agree with everything. Especially the secondary. We need an infusion of youth there. Also agree that we need to get rid of Parys, he never gets to the QB anymore and he's bad against the run and when they occasionally drop him in coverage. He's too slow. We definitely could've used Orakpo over Crabtree, and have Orakpo opposite Manny.

The plan, get back to the WCO

1. Look for an offensive coach say maybe Harbaugh of Stanford.

2a. Fire Jimmy Raye

2b. Hire Tom Rathman as OC.

3. Make Logan Mankins the prize free agent.

4. Sign Matt Hasselbeck as stop gap QB/mentor.

5. Take a chance on Champ Bailey.

6. Draft Ryan Mallet, cause I doubt Andrew Luck will declare for the draft.

7. Draft best available Center in 2nd round.
critical:
1. get rid of Jimmy Raye, promote Mike Johnson for continuity
2. draft QB 1st round, 4 really good ones could be available

less important:
3. whether its a CB or OLB, we need an impact playmaker on pass defense
4. get a WR with speed, Ginn can't catch and all our other guys are possession receivers

All of our key free agents are replaceable, unless Manny or Goldson break out and have all-pro seasons.
1. Keep Singletary
2. DONT keep Raye
3. Find a real OC
4. Draft a Cornerback in the 1st round
5. QB in the 2nd round
6. Make Clements take a pay cut or release him
7. Trade Haralson for a slurpee
Hire a real GM or football knowledgeable person to run the show. Minus contracts this front office is really lame.

I mean can anybody explain to me who is the person that is evaluating and breaking down the problems with the current coaching staff? Who steps in and steps up and says this philosophy isn't working, and tells Singletary to get a new philosophy or get a new job? Once again the problem is ownership and it trickles down throughout the whole team. Right now this team's stubbornness to get a real qb is sabotaging the team. They spent all off season denying every rumor under the sun regarding acquiring qb's and telling Alex it's his team. The front office and coaching staff has failed us miserably. If they don't change nothing will ever get better. thus why this team has been in the same boat regardless of the talent level increase.

The philosophy of getting "big" players has hurt us. Speed kills in this league. We lack speed at corner, at edge rusher, at receiver (I know we added Ginn, but he has hands of stone), at running back (Gore's great at what he does, but that doesn't include beating teams to the outside)..

Teams stack us up the middle and dare Alex to beat them over the top.

Priorities:
1. Getting a staff that understands modern offensive football
2. Getting a real QB
3. Adding speed at WR
4. And CB
5. Finally look for pass rushers. (Last priority because Brooks, LaBoy and Briggs might provide some of the answer)
Vet. QB, New HC and OC. Done.

Exactly. The Niners are trying to be like the Jets and Ravens(run 1st, qb manage game, great defense) but our coaching staff and head coach doens't have the same knowledge at those staffs. Plus the defense is good but it isn't great. Plus both teams have great go getter GM's that make moves so they can win now. This team i believe has the talent to win now but they have to get better mentally and execute.

And I think that they have to make it more of a priority of getting a pass rusher over Brooks, Laboy and Briggs is b/c all 3 seem to be specialist. I like all 3 guys but on other downs they are liabilities. Niners need guys who can play all 4 downs. Right now it's we load up to bring pressure on passing down, but we don't have an OLB's that can just beat there man on a regular down and get a sack.
Its funny i was actually researching potential vet qbs today, pennington stood out for alot of reasons... The dolphins have 4 QBs on their active roster, hes a vocal leader, hes got experience taking teams into the post season and im sure hes itching to get a starting job back.

Their are some people on this coaching staff i like, i REALLY think trent baalke is a great talent evaluator. Once the dusts settles from the chaos of this season, the reality that this was a solid draft class will become apparent. Raye is a lost cause, he should be on the sideline with a laminated play sheet like a real O.C. Sing is just a great speaker but not a game manager.

If we got a great offensive mind as a head coach with a proven track record be it in college or the pros, this franchise would spring back to life.. instead of having jerky death spasms that resemble life. Tedford from cal, urban meyer from florida, harbough from stanford.. throw some big money, it would pay dividends.

in my opinion it would be;

1. New H.C. and O.C.

2. Vet Q.b., We can draft a decent one in the second round,
Christian ponder has fallen off the radar a bit but is solid.

3. First round pick get a SOLID lock down corner with speed and height.

4. Draft or sign a stud pass rusher.

5. keep munusky and the core of our D intact. Spikes will probobly be replaced
by bowman, cut harylson ect.

They could definitely fall apart this year but if they made those changes we could easly be a fun team to watch again
If we're talking rebuilding, I think it starts at the top. I'd look to hire Marty Schottenheimer or Bill Cowher. I was really hoping for Shanahan, but Washington lucked out there.

Those coaches will bring in a quality staff, which we really need. I wouldn't change anything on defense. Manusky has done a wonderful job, IMO. I've been critical of our lack of pass rushers, but LaBoy and Brooks look promising. We are weak are CB, but that's a draft/FA issue.

On offense, our glaring weakness is the scheme and the QB position. Everything thing else is adequate. While we have the ability to run the ball, we are NOT a rushing team. We're most effective when we pass to setup the run, not the other way around. However, we only seem to be effective passing when Alex plays out of the Shotgun. I think we have to start there and unless Alex finishes strong this season, he's gone. Someone like Vick would be a short solution, but until we land a stud QB, we're nothing better than a playoff hopeful.

I would die for us to impliment a system that is very QB friendly, like the Shanahan/Kubiak system. Their zone blocking scheme is great for RBs also and it doesn't generally require as high draft picks to assemble the line because it relies on mobility and technique, rather than the ever-popular size and power combo. Personally, I'm surprised that more teams don't utilize zone blocking, but it's probably because when it's poorly executed, it's a disaster (Jim Zorn last season in Wash.)

I think in one regard, rebuilding is easy. Elite coaches will turn a franchise around. It's no surprise that Kansas City already looks much improved with Weis and Crennel as their coordinators. The Chiefs haven't even had time to bring in the personnel that they're looking for yet and they look to be a contender in their division.

Singletary is a great motivator; however, he was a statue against Seattle. He stood there frozen in disbelief. He's unqualified to manage a game. I don't know if he lacks knowledge of the rules, a poor strategist, or he just mentally isn't capable. He needs to study because that's unacceptable as a HC, IMO. Ultimately, that's him primary job on Sundays.
I'm with everybody on the simple "BRING BACK THE WCO" idea.

Singletary wants to brag about bringing back the 49ers luster/lineage to this team yet all he wants to do is PLAY CHICAGO BEARS FOOTBALL! Jesus Christ...

Does Sing even realize how much of a gold mine our building is in WCO film/study material? -It's like Steve Young said about 3 years ago, there's at least 5-10 teams across the league that would GIVE ANYTHING to get their hands on our Walsh/Holmgren/Shannahan film-room sessions in the storage dept!!!

Singletary just doesn't get it; Erickson didn't get it, and nor did Nolan.

Our team was cursed until the WCO came to it, and it'll remain cursed until it returns.
trade away many picks for a pro bowl QB

Id rather take a CB in the 2nd round and have Champ as a stop gap/Mentor as well
