I guess Franklin, Baas & Brooks don't count?
Franklin being franchised does not count, that's not extending a player
Baas who will not see the field any longer, signing a one year tender does not count either... is the 2 mil/year we offered Ahmad Brooks over 2 years putting us over the edge?Originally posted by 49oz2superbowl:Originally posted by SonocoNinerFan:Originally posted by 49oz2superbowl:not that we needed Faneca, and he's seriously diminishing as a player... but it pains me to see the rest of the NFC West make moves to improve while we sit around and "resign our guys".... which we haven't done either.

I guess that explains the Ginn trade.
I would rather us save money under the self-imposed budget the Niners have, rather than waste a ton of money on a declining G, especially since we still have youth at that position.
It is amazing. People complain if the Niners don't sign every FA that hits the market.
STFU I'm not complaining that we don't sign every free agent, I'm not even complaining about Faneca...READ. I'm complaining that the one player we sign in the first month is David Carr... followed by Karl Paymah... and Travis Leboy. With the young developing players we have at these positions we'd be better off not signing these players at all (with the exception of Paymah).
And as much as I like the Ginn trade, it's hard to be too excited when we gave up the same value for him (a 5th round pick) that the Jets gave up for Santonio Holmes and Eagles did for Ernie Sims.

It's a pathetic excuse if we aren't going to sign our real playmakers like Willis, Goldson, and Davis to longterm front-loaded contracts in this uncapped year
Pardon me . . . I thought you were talking about contracts that were actually set to expire this calendar year. Shame on me.

No need to be rude. Anger management?
If you read your original post, you make it sound like the Niners haven't done anything, or barely anything, to improve the team, which is far from the truth.
Not to mention that the FA class this year has been horrible, in case you didn't notice. Name a free agent the Niners should have signed? Julius Peppers? Carlos Dansby? Antrelle Rolle? Practically all the "impact" FA's have been overpaid by quite a bit.
Do you want Santonio Holmes on the Niners? Brandon Marshall? Ernie Sim? The first two are head cases with serious off the field issues and the third is a declining injury prone 4-3 LB.
The Niners haven't been able to re-sign some of their big names yet because of the lack of salary cap. However, they will be resigned by not spending a bunch of money on bad value players.

Our excuse was locking up our own guys, franchising and RFA tagging guys for one year is quite the opposite. Locking up franchise players longterm can be better than spending free agent dollars because it ensures reasonable longterm contracts for your franchise players... if we were only concerned with one year we'd be throwing contracts at guys like Westbrook, Tomlinson, Faneca, etc.

I also never said I wanted Ernie Sims. Santonio Holmes and Brandon Marshall. They would have no doubt been upgrades, but I'm not complaining about those signings given our scheme (Ernie Sims) and the young talent we have at wr. I'm just saying that it's not like we got an incredible steal when you look at the actual market value of 5th round picks. Sorry if I hurt feelings, I use "STFU" more of a phrase, not for the literal abbreviation. It's just pretty hypocritical to rag on a poster for being ill-informed when you don't even read the post.

I'm sorry you can't read my posts either. Where did I say my feelings were hurt? I merely indicated that you were being impolite when there was no reason to be. Do you tell employers, teachers and random strangers in the real world to STFU? If so, perhaps a change in policy should be made since it can be taken the wrong way. That is off topic however.
In your original post you stated:
"not that we needed Faneca, and he's seriously diminishing as a player... but it pains me to see the rest of the NFC West make moves to improve while we sit around and "resign our guys".... which we haven't done either."
First, you indicate that the rest of the NFC West is making moves to improve their team, by signing free agents. Though you do state that you don't necessarily sound like you want Faneca per se, you do make it sound as if you wish the Niners would make similar moves as them to improve the team.
Then in your response to me, you seem to say the opposite, lamenting that the Niners did sign the FA's they did, when we have young talent.
This is where confusion sets in. 1.) Why are you mad that the Cardinal's signed Faneca? Is it because they are signing a big name FA? If so, that is why I gave the initial response I did. 2.) If your main complaint is that the Niners haven't re-signed their young talent, what does that necessarily have to do with the Cardinal's signing Faneca? Have people in the NFC West resigned their young talent too, in which I am not aware of?
I think we got a pretty good deal for a 5th round pick, a young pro-bowl kr who is only 25 and still has a lot of room to grow. The other 5th round trades were unique situations. For example Holmes and Cromartie, were decreased in value because they have serious off the field issues (Holmes even being suspend during next season and Cromartie being Cromartie). Not to mention Cromartie hasn't been that great of a CB for some time now. In regards to Sims, he has serious injury issues and has a hard time getting on the field, not to mention that he has seen a serious decline in production and has been a liability on run plays.
I just don't think things are that bad for the Niners. Once the bargaining agreement has been signed, the Niners will be in good standing with the Cap and have plenty of room to maneuver and re-sign players. They won't let Davis or Willis walk because they are franchise players. As for the others, we will see.
The Niners are still #1 in the West going into the season, because they have lost the least and extremely strengthened the OL through the draft. Things will work themselves out.
I'm not looking for a fight, so this will be my final response. Have a nice day.
