Seems to excel at pass blocking, and needs improvement in run blocking. He'll compete with Baas at LG if signed.

Great another broke down lineman. Looks like a depth signing. He had 2 major knee problems not just one.

Carr will have nightmares if he sees Pitts. All the memories of the sacks will come flooding back

I don't understand the obsession with injured players? Why don't we look to develop diamonds in the rough rather than sign guys with some serious injury history for the OL?

Didn't he play 7 straight seasons without missing a game before last year?

Sure but with two major knee injuries. Marvel Smith was a pro-bowl LT before he had major back problems. If I'm trying to rebuild the most exposed, talent-depleted unit on my team, I don't keep brining in guys coming off of major injuries. Why can't we continue to find the Kyle Kosiers of the world - you know actually scouting UDFA and getting them to develop.

Pitts would be a solid stop gap solution if healthy. In the draft we will get some OL players. If not then

Or take chances on RFA, McCloughan is just too conservative. If the other team matches the offer than no harm no foul. I really hope we don't pick up Chester Pitts, I rather take one in the 3rd-7th rounds, or Iupati in the 1st.

More and more I'm beginning to dislike McCloughan's moves and philosophy.

Agreed - it's just the whole Marvel Smith thing has me gun shy about any "damaged goods" OL.

Regardless of Pitts I'm assuming we will be drafting 2 OL players in the first 3 rounds.

It's b/c our GM doesn't value the guard position and believes you can find one anywhere. Therefore an injured player for cheap is right up his alley. Do folks realize the Niners have drafted ONE OT this decade. And it's not saying folks can't come off injuries and be productive, but this guy is coming off a torn Meniscus, and micro fracture surgery for ligament damage. Not to mention he's coming from one of the worse o line's over the last 7 seasons. That's why i see it as nothing more than a depth signing if it happens. Which I think they really need along this o line. And what's the word on Sims?

Name 1 tean that signed a RFA so far? OJ Atogwe is a RFA and teams don't have to give up picks to get him, but teams are waiting until June when he would be a UFA.

I'd rather just go with Baas then sign another 30-something OL.

I'm not talking about just this year, and btw free agency just started, so of course I can't name a team yet. But why keep bringing in the aged old vets coming off injuries?? Some of them barely making out of training camp.

The problem is Baas is not much better than Chester Pitts. If anything Pitts could put some heat on Baas and Rachel.

We do find them. Problem is that we let them go and they play awesome for other teams (Kosier, Dahl, and Smiley come to mind)
