Free-agent tight end Anthony Becht (Cardinals) is visiting 49ers today

Hahaha this is like the 4th back-to-back season we'll be signing a chum 3rd string/camp tight-end!

It would be a better move to sign this guy than go after one in the Draft and cutting him, like we did to Bear Pasco.

I had hope for Bear Pascoe

Me too, who was our third tight end last year? JJ finley

Me too, I think it was because of the way Matt Maiocco was pumping him up through mini camps.

These guys we are brought in recently are not camp tight-ends. We are currently bringing guys that are proven TE blockers. Vernon is one of the best blocking TE currently in the league. Delanie Walker on the other hand is not. We can run 2 TE sets in short yardage or goal line situations with more success with either Becht or Baker then Walker. We can use a back up OT for our 2nd TE in short yardage situations but by putting in an actual 2nd TE, it will give us flexibility to run play action pass.

Well said. I sometimes forget that Walker is a TE. He seems more like a TE/WR/FB hybrid. Going this route with a veteran TE makes sense, especially veteran TE's that are known to be solid blockers.

Both Becht and Baker are actually solid redzone threats as well and that should only help when at the goal-line.

I agree about Walker. He screams Norv Turner H-back to me . . . like a swiss army knife.
He would be a solid addition
He would help out in a posistion we need (blocking tight end). I hope we get him or Baker.
Blocking TE is something that we needed last year and I'm glad its being addressed this year. At least this way we also have insurance in case one of the TE gets hurt. A blocking TE would alos help open Holes for the RBs.

mite as well do it
