But if anybody thinks for one second Jared Gaither should make us think less about taking a tackle in the first round is living in Marvel Smith la-la-land.

Jared Gaither is 24 and is really good. He would not be a mentor.

I don't think people believe it, but now people are starting to think it would be a good idea to sign him and trae a 1st for him.

Yeah, so now they'll get their hopes up, then they'll b***h and complain if the 49ers don't do it or can't pull off a trade for Gaither.

Why wouldn't we "b***h and complain?"

Even Patrick Willis is "b***hing and complaining" about how lousy our front office is right now. No moves whatsoever other then David f**king Carr? Ugh

Not talking about the David Carr move, but I think the reason for not making any 1st rate signings have to do with father and son Yorks.

I thought Scott made roster decisions am I wrong?

True he does, but owners give the go ahead on money. If the Yorks really wanted to spend money on free agents, they would, see 2007.

The Yorks control the purse strings, but we've got several key young players that are looking at huge extensions in the near future.

I don't think the Yorks are cheap, just trying to build a new stadium and retain the talent we already have.

I wasn't trying to imply that they are being cheap, just saying that I think the Yorks are holding off on spending big for awhile.

Hmmm yes, he's solid, so if we were to obtain him that would result in the expected shift of Staley returning to the right side . -It would be wondrous, and dramatically changing to our draft plans... but will Scotty pull the trigger? Does our team have the balls to do it?

I think the real question is, would Baltimore let him go.

We could get him if we wanted him by putting some language in the contract that if he plays 4 games in Bmore his whole contract is guaranteed. The niners would have to be willing to give up the 13th pick. I would do it.

Just because he is tendered for a first round pick doesnt necessarily mean that the team who accepts a trade has to recieve a first rounder.

For example, he is tendered at a 1st round level, but the Ravens own Gaither's rights right now, and can trade him for anything.

Remember when we had Brandon Lloyd tendered at a 1st round level, and the Redskins had no first round picks. We traded Brandon Lloyed away for a 3rd and 4th rounder because we owned his rights.

So technically, the 49ers can give up the 17th pick for Gaither.

You are correct. But if we actually sign him to an offer sheet and they refuse it will be our #13.

Which tells me it will either be #13 or nothing. I don't see Balt intentionally trading him for a mid teen pick just to try and draft another guy to play LT. Wouldn't make any sense.

But if we make an offer they can't match. Then they have no choice but to take the #13 and hope for the best.

If Gaither leaves, Oher moves to LT

Can't trade a pick that wasn't originally yours. For instance, if Seattle wants Marshall, and Denver sticks to their guns about his tender, it's going to be for the 6th or no 1st rounder this year. You can only trade your own earned picks.

I know. Wishfull thinking. but we would be getting a proven player vs a unknown, just hate seeing that #13 go bye-bye.

we would get a quality player, and well for the 13th, well we would still have the 17th just 4 slots away! he would solidify our o line for sure!

That's not true. You can TRADE any pick. But if an offer sheet is signed and compensation is to be awarded. It HAS to be your pick. But you can trade any pick you have if deal is reached. It just has to actually be a trade and not compensation for the actual tender.

interesting! so know the question comes up, would baltimore trade gaithers for the 17th knowing that we posses the 13th pick?
