I don't think people believe it, but now people are starting to think it would be a good idea to sign him and trae a 1st for him.

Yeah, so now they'll get their hopes up, then they'll b***h and complain if the 49ers don't do it or can't pull off a trade for Gaither.

Why wouldn't we "b***h and complain?"

Even Patrick Willis is "b***hing and complaining" about how lousy our front office is right now. No moves whatsoever other then David f**king Carr? Ugh

Not talking about the David Carr move, but I think the reason for not making any 1st rate signings have to do with father and son Yorks.

So let's hear your theory then.

Ha! Didn't Nolan have him in for a try out, prior to the supplemented draft? Then we passed on him!

True he does, but owners give the go ahead on money. If the Yorks really wanted to spend money on free agents, they would, see 2007.

Just because he is tendered for a first round pick doesnt necessarily mean that the team who accepts a trade has to recieve a first rounder.

For example, he is tendered at a 1st round level, but the Ravens own Gaither's rights right now, and can trade him for anything.

Remember when we had Brandon Lloyd tendered at a 1st round level, and the Redskins had no first round picks. We traded Brandon Lloyed away for a 3rd and 4th rounder because we owned his rights.

So technically, the 49ers can give up the 17th pick for Gaither.
The talk on the Ravens MB is that the Colts and Cowboys are the only teams interested in Gaither.

Here's the thing that bugs me. Yes, o-line is a priority this offseason.......and yes, chances are we would use that pick on an o-lineman out of college who would need a couple years to become a bonified starter.

But when you have an EXTRA first round pick to float around, WHY-O-WHY would you use it on a lineman that hasnt even made a probowl during his career. Mind you, just keep in mind the who's or whats we could trade that pick for (McNabb, Marshall, etc.).

Is he really worth a first round pick ?

Doubt the Ravens trade him. Especially after finally getting Flaco a weapon in Bolden. Ozzie Newsome won't take a step back by trading away a stud LT.

But it really isn't considered trading if we sign him to an offer, we just would have to give them compensation. Sure they can match the offer but I think he has the right to accept or refuse either one.

sooo is it official that we are a leading candidate?
or has no one found a legit source yet?

So let me get this straight. Right now it's "Official" that it's "Unofficial"?

I think Jared Gaither would simply come in to replace Pashos (once Pashos flees back to his boyfriend OC in D.C.), and help mentor the rookie Tackle/depth of the o-line.

But if anybody thinks for one second Jared Gaither should make us think less about taking a tackle in the first round is living in Marvel Smith la-la-land.

You are correct. But if we actually sign him to an offer sheet and they refuse it will be our #13.

Which tells me it will either be #13 or nothing. I don't see Balt intentionally trading him for a mid teen pick just to try and draft another guy to play LT. Wouldn't make any sense.

But if we make an offer they can't match. Then they have no choice but to take the #13 and hope for the best.

The Yorks control the purse strings, but we've got several key young players that are looking at huge extensions in the near future.

I don't think the Yorks are cheap, just trying to build a new stadium and retain the talent we already have.
