That's why Vernon will be considered a great TE this season but not an elite one like Gonzo.

It's up to Vernon to give these haters/doubters no reason to diss him.

Agreed. There are still areas where Davis can improve.

At the same time, I think a lot depends on how you carry yourself on and off the field.

I think many in the media still remember when Singletary kicked Davis off the field last year. Since national media analysts don't play close attention to a specific team, they may miss key information (i.e. Davis is one of the captains).

When you compare that to Gonzales, who's been pretty much a class act and model citizen throughout his career, you can see why people don't have Davis's back.

Also, look at Patrick Willis. I think if you talk to any reasonable and somewhat unreasonable fan of any team, you'll see that they have mad respect for a guy like Willis. He's a football player, and a class act off the field.
I couldn't have asked a better question. Where do they find these people to write about sports when they don't have a clue?

It was kind of a breakout year for Davis, who led all tight ends with 12 touchdowns. His athleticism makes him more of a big-play threat, but I'll still take Gonzalez as a better all-around player right now. Say you're facing a third down, and you need to convert a third-and-7 to keep a drive going late in the fourth quarter, who would you rather have on the field, Gonzalez or Davis? VD will make a lot of Pro Bowls in the future, and I'm glad he had the year he did, but for right now, I think it's still Gonzalez's spot.

So Pro Bowl selections should be determined by which player you would most like to have if the down and distance is 3rd and 7?

Ok, so say you need 25+ yards. Who would you rather have on the field?

Gonzales and VD, not Witten should be the argument.

THIS!

did Witten do this year to deserve a spot on that roster?

Totally, should be vernon starting and Gonzalez as reserve

And a better question:
If you need 7 points who would you rather have on the field?

As stated that guy can suck a dick.

I'll take even one step further.

It should be:

1. Vernon
2. Gonzo
3. Celek
4. Witten

f**king overrated mofo
Yeah I'm not sure on Celek's stats but I thought he would get in over Witten

absolutely correct.
he would rather have Gonzo because of third downs? obviously he hasn't seen the niners on fourth downs
This is the Pro Bowl, Vernon had a better season so he deserves the spot.
Gonzales has had a better career and is a shoe in for the HOF, that doesn't mean he deserves to be in the Pro Bowl over another tight end since he has been consistently better.

TO has had a better career than Desean Jackson but Jackson had a great year and TO had an off one. Doesn't mean since TO has more pro bowl appearances and more career TDs he should be ushered into another one, this writer is an idiot.
Who cares what they say?
Seriously though he is right. I would rather have TG out there than VD. Like I have stated before VD is not clutch yet while TG most deffinatly is. That said pro bowl i about stats not who is better so in that aspect VD deserves the pro bowl he earned it and stat wise has a better year
