I would welcome him back for sure! I still do regret when old Bill Walsh didnt trade him to the redskins for two 1st back in that draft when we drafted Julian Peterson and Ahmed Plummer. They had pick #2 and 3! Do you all remember this? Man imagine how different our team could have been in that deep draft. Redskins ended up picking Chris Samuels and Lavar Arrington
I never heard this ever, sounds like the Skins to offer 2 first round picks for a WR. Why would any team on Earth pass that up? Both the #2 and #3 picks? Maybe we didn't want to invest that much $$$. If that was the case we still should have took it and flipped one of the picks.
Can anyone else validate this?
It was most likely the potential cap hits. In the year 2000 a #2/#3 would have (individually) made at least 13-14 million within the first 12 months of their contract, and this was also around the time we were beginning to reach the threshold of our tumultuous cap hell.
Bill Walsh was facing the type of situation (with cap/roster sacrifices) no GM would have been able to succeed around, yet we somehow managed a wildcard win out of it before everything went to complete s**t!
it makes me sick to my stomach to think we lost out on 2 top 3 picks because we didn't trade TO. I understand we probably couldn't but man I HATE TO. I wish I never knew about this would be trade.
