Baas would be a RFA. Don't see any team willing to match a high tender offer. Maybe he could retained for a low tender.
exactly, plus if he gets the low tender, and is signed, we get a 2nd since he was a 2nd rd pick, so a win win situation
Ok that's good, but sometimes it's also good to just get rid of trash cuz it smells and contaminates.

OT Barry Sims(UFA)
OG David Baas(RFA)
and of course extend our own;
IILB Patrick Willis
DE Ray McDonald
RB Frank Gore
TE Vernon Davis
OLB Manny Lawson
FS Dashon Goldson
-David Bass sucks, let him walk
-Barry Sims sucks
-P52 will be a fortune and not happen any time soon
-Ray McDonald has done nothing, let him walk
-VD needs to finish the season strong to even think about an extension
-Manny Law- see VD other then a lot of potential, he has done nothing
-Dashon Goldson would come cheap and be a good extension
-Frank Gore needs to have a solid season next year, he hasn't played well enough to warrant a gigantic contract to this point.

I would say no to resigning Baas at all. he's not a good guard. And the team has to be very very careful with Franklin. It's a contract year and we all know how some guys seem to play better when money is on teh table.
This is a pretty sad list. i would like Wilfork or Hampton if possible. I wouldn't mind Merriman at all for the right price, but i still need to see him produce more. Sad thing is when you look at the niners roster there isn't a project guy that can even possibly develop into a decent pass rusher. So they have to take a shot on somebody. Willie Parker is the softest running back in the NFL no way to him.
and question if they don't reach a new CBA the uncapped year wouldn't be until after the 10/11 season and not after this season?

WOW, u must be crazy to wanna wait and extend VD, he has earned it, and Sims doesnt suck, he is actually decent at LT, and has played really good, he will be back.
And Gore has earned it also, he is a workhorse, and deserves an extension.

So much for free agency.........what a barren list. Time to think draft and UDFA's almost exclusively. The uncapped year is going to be detrimental to the teams looking for new talent from other rosters.

He would be totally worth it for a cheap incentive laced contract.
That way he would have to earn his money with good play.

Yeah, that's always in the best interest of the team, but it's hard to get a player to agree to those terms unless he has no leverage. I think there's enough teams out there that still think Merriman is a much better player than his performance dictates this season.
Keep in mind that he's playing on a bum knee. It's hard to expect someone to be an explosive pass rusher when they have only one good leg. Plus, San Diego's defense hasn't been the same since Manusky left. Whether that's the reason or possibly because of the loss Wade Phillips, the whole defense hasn't looked the same since.
I think a healthy Merriman under Manusky could be a great combo. Assuming Dumervil gets locked down in Denver, Merriman appears to be the next best option.

6 months ago the mere suggestion of resigning any of these guys would have resulted in endless ridicule.
Now.. Franklin has become a vital piece of our defense and clearly one of the best 3-4 NTs in the league. We need to figure out a way to keep him around.
Sims has played way better than I expected filling in for Staley. Once Staley returns he should be given some consideration to replace Snyder at RT. If he continues to play well down the stretch, he may be worth resigning, for a reasonable price.
Baas.. I can't figure this guy out. He looks like an NFL guard, he should be playing better than he does. The dude has the biggest head I have ever seen. I am not sure I would resign him.

i do think he will sign an incentive contract( or a good mix ofg it) a healthy bonus(not to over the top) and then some incentives to reach demarcus ware type money.
