i dont see niners expressing any interest they seem to have confidence in balmer to play NT , if anything they'll look at ellis for OLB need, singletary has said can never have enough pass rushers.

They'd never give up Wilfork for so little.

I would love for SF to trade and acquire Wilfork. Sooooo very sick of watching subpar play by subpar NTs. People may think I'm outta my mind, but I would offer our 2nd rounder and see how NE feels.

lmao. You gotta be kidding. The Pats won't let wilfork walk without a fight.
Even if they do trade him they won't settle for a 3rd. He is one of the, if not the
best NT in the game. They will ask for a first rounder and more than just a player (unless it's Gore or Willis). You do realize that 1/3rd of the league plays a 3/4 D now? So the demand for a NT is very high.
And just because they drafted 3 players that can play NT doesn't mean they are ready to.
I would love to have him on our team. LOVE it. But the only way that would happen would be to offer a trade the Pat's can't refuse or hope that he get's in FA and throw a boat load of money at him.

I think they would consider it for a 2nd rounder. Hope they look into it.

how bout we just get Mount Cody from alabama in the draft next year?? dont have to trade anyone and will probably get him for less than a high priced free agent seeing as how he may be a 2nd-3rd rounder...i dont see someone his size going 1st round since he isnt an every down player yet

But ya gotta look at several times that some vet players got away for a lot less than they were worth...Matt Cassell went for a 2nd. I believe, (and there's been others)...I'm just saying never say never, because just when we start to make predictions, that's when the "it'll never happen"-- happens

They drafted 2, Brace and Pryor. Pryor will likely end up in the PS. Brace once he develops will be used to give Wilfork breathers, he could end up being the NT should they lose him to FA however Seymour is also a FA this offseason so one will probably be gone, and the younger Wilfork is the higher priority. Dominant 3-4 NT's are a rare commodity.
At this point the Pats won't let him walk for cheap. They have an entire season and then some (up to the start of FA) to try and work out a long term deal. Should they not get it done they could tag him.
If you want to make an offer that they would possibly give serious consideration to at this point you would have to AT LEAST drop a 1st rounder plus some on the table seeing that he is still there property in theory for 2 more years.

Who says we will be in position to draft him ? We may have to move up or reach depending on where our picks are. Right now he is a first rounder seeing how rare 3-4 NT's are. He has the size but lacks conditioning which can be developed. The flip side is we know what Wilfork is capable of but we don't know what Cody will amount to in the NFL so there is a greater risk with Cody. FTR teams draft based on potential and upside so being an every down player or not isn't of all that much importance at this stage of his career and he will likely never be an every down player in the Pro's (he is a run stuffer not a pass rusher), he will be replaced in nickel situations unless the team that drafts him uses a 3-3-5 nickel.

Also interested in Cody to some degree, but I'd much rather make the trade for a proven vet like Wilfork. He is only 27 years old (28 in Nov), and has the athleticism needed for what Manusky is trying to implement. Cody (if he keeps improving his conditioning and play) will seem a near 1st round lock, and also seems only destined to be a 2-gap plugger. I know NE runs more of a 2-gap system, but Wilfork has the skills to be a great NT for the 1-gap Manusky scheme IMHO.
I don't expect it to happen, but I can dream...

I counted Richard as the 3rd. as he was a DT, but alas he was a FA(and not a draftee), and I see they still have Mike Wright too...So there's still 4 NT's on the roster besides Wilfork..We also have to look at the fact that Belichek always takes 5th-6th. rdr's and make them into starters(heck CB W. Gay wasnt even drafted, but started in the SB), so a guy like Pryor or Brace may be good enough to start in NE's "system"...

And the 3 starters on the line are all 1st round picks.

True, but you cant refute some of the starters on OL are NOT 1st. rounders, and some of the defensive starters are NOT 1st. rounders, and they had/have some UDFA starters....
