Tulo with a 2RBI triple and a solo shot so far...
Whew! Made it to a 1st Round Bye. I like my draw too.
Added up all the scores for the top 5 teams in our league (teams 2-5 were within 5.5 games of each other) and got some interesting observations:

If we were playing roto the standings would be as follows: nj- 93, atg- 87, rr- 79, jrg-70, nl-67.

redrose, jrg and ninerlifer all played better than their roto records would suggest and they have pretty unbalanced teams. Meanwhile my team is pretty darn balanced yet is playing way below it's roto stats would suggest.

In H2H I can see now that it pays to be dominant in a few categories and tank others. Also it pays to be consistent in this type of league, my team was ridiculously streaky.

Lastly, and pretty much unrelated to this statistical analysis is the point that if I had been a little more vigilant about making sure my roster was set before going to bed I would have the 1st round bye right now and not about to have my ass kicked by the streaking jrg.

I like the competitiveness and focus on consistency H2H brings, but I don't like how it favors unbalanced teams which is not realistic to baseball at all.

^^ I agree with your assessment.

I don't like the emphasis on categories at all. I don't think H2H categories works well for fantasy baseball. It's more for fantasy basketball.

A points league is better because then you have way to directly assess a player's value with comparison to other players. And since each player contributes directly to the team's total, a points league is a better representation of the teams' overall strength.

Does Yahoo fantasy baseball allow you to place limits on how many players of a specific position you can have?

I agree. I prefer roto for fantasy baseball. This is fun and the playoffs are cool but roto is the real test for who had the best and most balanced team. Oh ya.. that would be ME!

Roto next year?
I also used to play Roto exclusively in my leagues, and for someone like me who paid attention all year, it was usually a cake walk. Some guys would lose interest quick.

In a league like this with pretty much all dedicated GM's it would be cool. But I bet you'd still have some guys dropping out. In Roto, big leads can appear insurmountable. But I always liked it because the best teams are rewarded.

Whatever we play next year, let's just make sure we're settled before the draft.

And I like the keeper idea for next year, too.

Ive always done H2H....Just draft accordingly. My downfall was my offensive players not living up to their potential. Oh well. I was like the Giants this year. Pitching, Pitching, and Pitching, and lucky to get some offensive production. That being said, 2nd seed is cool with me.

If it were roto, noway the dedicated managers had a chance of catching first. There was great excitment for the playoffs with it coming down to the wire with the last spot. Playoffs are interesting, in that anyone can win it now, thats why I like H2H.

Good points. I am really fine with either H2H or Roto in this league. If we do H2H we should use a points sytem like we had orignally tried to do. In any case, its all for fun and there is no $$ exchanged so really its all about keeping our attention. H2H might be better for that as pointed out.
Actually I wasn't saying we should do roto at all. Actually I think we should do what we were originally going to do last year which was a points based H2H. If you do it right it can reward balance while still maintaining the exciting elements of H2H.

However, it's going to take a lot of fine-tuning to get a really goo system and jrg seemed to not like having to do all that fine-tuning this year (correct me if I'm wrong), so if someone else wants to do it they can. I don't want to be comish because I'm superstitious and i sucked balls last year when I was comish.
