Sep 20, 2016 at 2:54 PM--

Andy Benoit of Sports Illustrated sat down and reviewed the game film of Sunday's San Francisco 49ers loss to the Carolina Panthers. Below are some observations that the NFL analyst and staff writer made regarding the 49ers.

21 quick observations from the 49ers' 2022 season

By Marc Adams

After every game, I do a quick "observations" piece, listing the handful of things that jumped out to me in the game. Since there (sadly) was no game on Sunday to write about, I decided to give my observations from the season. Here are some things that jumped out to me: Four quarterbacks played. Four quarterbacks went down. Why are the 49ers cursed at the QB position? Who has the voodoo doll? I'm blaming Jim Tomsula. Another wasted season for Trey Lance. If he never becomes who we hope he'll become, Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch better hope they win a Super Bowl with someone else. So long, Jimmy Garoppolo. You served the 49ers well. But I'm still not sure how you stepped out of the back of the end zone in Denver. Brock Purdy is

20 quick observations from the 49ers ugly NFC Championship Game loss

I will not admit the Philadelphia Eagles are better than the San Francisco 49ers. Perhaps that makes me petty. I'm ok with that. I just don't believe the Eagles are better than the 49ers. They were better yesterday, though, and that's what matters. That was one of the ugliest, strangest games I've ever seen. It was painful to watch. And to their credit, the Eagles took advantage and defeated the 49ers 31-7 to advance to the Super Bowl. Earlier Sunday morning, I released a video with my three things the 49ers had to do to win the game. Those three things were: Don't turn the ball over. Keep Jalen Hurts from beating you with his legs. Run the ball. They failed on two of the three. Losing your starting

49ers interested in Panthers' Steve Wilks, others for likely defensive coordinator vacancy

By David Bonilla

According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, the San Francisco 49ers requested permission to speak with Carolina Panthers interim head coach Steve Wilks. The 49ers expect to lose defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans, likely to the Houston Texans. Ryans completed his second interview with the Texans on Tuesday morning. The #49ers requested permission to speak to Steve Wilks for their defensive coordinator position, source says. He's still

49ers mailbag: Will 49ers sign a big-name QB? Who will Ryans take to Houston? Who will replace Ryans? Will Garoppolo return?

There's not much going on with the San Francisco 49ers. Not unless you count these small bits of news: Brock Purdy has a UCL tear and will likely need surgery. If they can repair the tendon, he'll need six months of recovery time (which is August). If they have to replace it (Tommy John surgery), it will be decidedly longer. Trey Lance says he is three to four weeks from being cleared to practice, and that he should be 100% by OTAs (organized team activities). Trent Williams was walking with a crutch on Tuesday (locker cleanout day) and had a walking boot on. But he said it's nothing. DeMeco Ryans was hired to be the next head coach of the Houston Texans. Tom Brady announced his retirement Wednesday morning, so those hoping he
