49ers GM John Lynch says ex-Raiders coach Jon Gruden is 'extremely remorseful' about comments

By David Bonilla

San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch won a Super Bowl on a Jon Gruden-coached team — the 2002 Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Having played for Gruden, Lynch was shocked by the comments that led to the coach's departure from the Las Vegas Raiders. Emails from Gruden, some up to 10 years old, revealed racist, misogynistic, and anti-gay language directed at NFL personnel. On October 11, Gruden resigned as the Raiders' coach. Lynch joined KNBR this morning. The general manager shared his thoughts on Gruden's comments and the end of his career with the Raiders. "First of all, I'll always be grateful to Jon," Lynch said on the Murph & Mac show. "We won a Super Bowl together. So, thankful and grateful for that. Someone asked me if I was

By Rohan Chakravarthi

Another week, another close loss, and another game with multiple missed opportunities for the 49ers. It's been the same narrative during the 49ers' current three-game losing streak, and Sunday's loss to the Arizona Cardinals now puts the team at 2-3 on the season as it heads into its bye week. Huge news came Monday afternoon, as Kyle Shanahan noted that rookie quarterback Trey Lance suffered a left knee sprain and will be out for 1-2 weeks, leaving Nate Sudfeld as the only healthy quarterback currently on the roster. But, we'll get to the future later. First, let's break down Sunday's loss with three areas of needed improvement and four positives that came out of the game. The Problems (Yeah, I'm starting with the

Joe Staley: Jimmy Garoppolo will start, but 49ers are more exciting with Trey Lance

Former San Francisco 49ers offensive tackle, Joe Staley, went on KNBR Radio on Monday to discuss the 49ers' loss to the Arizona Cardinals. As expected, the conversation went to the quarterback situation with Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance, including who Staley believed would be under center in two weeks when the 49ers play the Indianapolis Colts. "I think he made his decision before the season even started," Staley said on the Papa & Lund show. "If Jimmy's healthy, he's going to be our quarterback this year. They want to use it as a red-shirt year, almost, for Trey this season. I was encouraged." That seemed to be the plan in the offseason, to have Lance sit and learn. Even after the game on Sunday, Kyle Shanahan continued to hold his ground that

Do the 49ers have an identity crisis on offense? Joe Staley thinks so...and he's not alone

Do the San Francisco 49ers have an identity crisis on offense? Former 49ers great, and current analyst, Joe Staley, thinks so. And he's not the only one. Staley went on KNBR's Papa & Lund show on Monday to talk 49ers. In addition to saying Kyle Shanahan will likely go back to Jimmy Garoppolo in two weeks, but that the offense is more exciting with Trey Lance, Staley spent some time talking about the identity of the team. Particularly, the identity of the offense. "What's been shocking to me is that, one of the things, too, has been that stretch zone, but all the play-action roll-outs, that was one of our identities, the keep game. And it hasn't been
