49ers sign CB Kyle Sebetic to practice squad

The San Francisco 49ers announced today that they have signed CB Kyle Sebetic to the practice squad.

Sebetic, who was signed as an undrafted free agent by the New York Giants in 2014, has spent much of this season with the Green Bay Packers. He was waived off of their practice squad on December 8.

He played college football at the University of Dayton, appearing in 40 games and starting 39 of those. During that time, he had 206 tackles, five interceptions, 33 passes defended, three forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, and earned First-Team All-Pioneer Football League honors in 2013.

The 49ers had room on the practice squad after RB Jarryd Hayne was elevated to the 53-man roster on Saturday.

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke with reporters on Monday after players came off the field from the first training camp practice of the week. While rookie Trey Lance has had impressive moments over the past week, Shanahan reiterated that no quarterback competition is brewing in Santa Clara. Garoppolo is currently getting the majority of the practice reps with the first-team offense. Lance has been primarily working with the second-team unit. There are no plans for that to change. "I thought Trey had one of his better days on Saturday," Shanahan said, "but that was nothing to move him up there, to start talking differently with Jimmy or anything like that." The plan is for Garoppolo to be the 49ers' starter when the team faces the

Trey Lance was impressive on Tuesday. It may have been his best practice of training camp. The San Francisco 49ers rookie quarterback completed all 13 of his passes during team drills before his final throw, intended for wide receiver Richie James, fell incomplete. Lance even had a beautiful deep touchdown throw to Trent Sherfield that wowed teammates, the media, and fans. However, most of his passes on the day were shorter throws. Head coach Kyle Shanahan insists that the team's quarterback plans haven't changed. A few practices aren't going to change that. Jimmy Garoppolo is the starter, and Lance will serve as his backup. Shanahan was asked if Lance's outing on Tuesday was the type of performance that might convince him that the No. 3 overall pick deserves

Today, San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch was asked about the contract situation with the team's No. 3 overall pick. Rookie quarterback Trey Lance remains the only unsigned player from the Niners' most recent draft class. "We're sure hopeful that he does (sign soon)," Lynch said. "Sometimes these things -- I just look at our history since we've been here. We've never had a holdout. It always seems to go down to the wire. It's important that he is here. "I think for any rookie, for every player, every rep counts, every meeting counts, but in particular at that position. So we're hopeful and expecting that Trey will be here and certainly know the importance of him being here." 49ers players reported to the team's facilities this morning for
