49ers QB Trey Lance: "I've been preparing to play since the day I was drafted"

By David Bonilla

Thursday wasn't second-year quarterback Trey Lance's best practice. However, before anyone overreacts to the incompletions and interception on the day, it is important to remember that it was the second practice of training camp. Therefore, every snap is an opportunity to learn for the inexperienced quarterback, who is slated to be the San Francisco 49ers' Week 1 starter. While the revolution that Lance was the undisputed starter heading into the 2022 season is new to the national media, those inside the building and those who follow the team more closely weren't surprised. The San Francisco 49ers play three preseason games in the span of 14 days. Head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke with reporters before Tuesday's practice and laid out his plan to ensure the starters get some exhibition reps without getting worn down. On Friday, the 49ers will host the Green Bay Packers at Levi's Stadium. Then, eight days later, they will play the Minnesota Vikings on the road. San Francisco will practice with the Vikings

On Monday, former federal judge Sue L. Robinson determined that Deshaun Watson violated the personal conduct policy, imposing a six-game suspension. The NFL has until Thursday to appeal the decision, should the league feel the need to increase the suspension

On Tuesday, things got snippy between San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk and linebacker Fred Warner. The two were involved in scuffles during practice, forcing head coach Kyle Shanahan to pause the session and address his team. "It's hot today, so tempers flaring today," Aiyuk said after practice. "But it's football. Football season's here. ... The defense came out here with a great intensity the last couple of days, so we've got to wake the offense up one way or another." Aside from the heated on-field interactions with one of the league's best linebackers, Aiyuk has impressed his defensive teammates during training camp. One defender went as far as
