While guys like Matt Maiocco, Matt Barrows and the rest of the local beat writers have already had an opportunity to view this team in action today, 4 pm's open practice will be the first opportunity for fans to see the 2008 San Francisco 49ers. For those fans that cannot attend, but have a never ending thirst for anything 49ers, I will be trying to blog live from training camp. With a heavy emphasis on the word "try." Check back here as training camp time approahes for updates until today's open session ends.

Don't forget to read Webzone writer Oscar Aparicio's live training camp blog tomorrow as well.

And please bear with me should there be any typos or grammar errors. This is all being done from my iPhone.

3:39 pm: Jeb Terry, Joe Cohen and Walter Curry are the first ones out on the field. Followed by all of the quarterbacks. a number or other players are slowly heading out as well.

3:41 pm: The quarterbacks are warming up by tossing the ball to each other.

3:46 pm: Practice is beginning early. The team is just practicing with some very simple snaps and mechanics.

3:58 pm: The first pass and reception was Smith to Robinson. Again, just practicing mechanics, but it was something.

3:59 pm: Now they are lined up to start running and stretching.

4:09 pm: The offense starts closest to the fans. Shaun Hill takes the first snap. Walker is looking very quick.

4:11 pm: Everyone moans as Walker drops an easy Smith pass.

4:14 pm: Smith makes a nice pass completion to Davis. Perhaps a sign that Davis will be more involved this year.

4:24 pm: The team has moved on to passing drills. Johnson, Colvin and Bruce look solid. Hill looks rusty. And as I type that, Bruce drops the ball. Lelie is making some nice catches. Bruce and Johnson are making some nice deep catches.

Now they have moved to some slant routes. On the other side of the field, Gore and Davis are looking good catching the ball.

4:26 pm: Corners are in there now and Clements starts by knocking down a pass intended for Johnson.

4:27 pm: Gore just smoked Willis.

4:30 pm: Davis toys with Lawson and catches the ball. A nice little juke at the end.

4:36 pm: The offense is now practicing against the defense.

4:42 pm: Smith's passes look solid, but he still seems to be taking a while to get the ball off. Hill draws the defense offsides.

4:46 pm: Goldson picks off a Hill pass.

4:48 pm: Hill is picked off again by Reggie Smith.

4:51 pm: Smith's passes do not look so great against the full defense.

4:52 pm: The team has moved on to practicing kick returns.

5:02 pm: Rachal is looking very quick and physical. He seems to be blocking well.

5:07 pm: I am very impressed with how quick Gore is looking.

Hill is picked off again by Larry Grant.

5:11 pm: Jason Hill made a crazy catch from Alex Smith with three guys all over him.

5:16 pm: Gore has a quick burst. He is really looking impressiv as he blasts past defenders.

5:29 pm: Coach Singletary keeps encouraging the fans to cheer for the defense.

Alex was looking rusty there for a while but has now completed three consecutive passes.

Hill made a nice deep pass to Zeigler.

5:31 pm: Another pick by Hill. Spencer comes down with it.

5:34 pm: That's a wrap for today.
