On April 29, it was widely reported that the San Francisco 49ers had reached an agreement with veteran offensive tackle D.J. Humphries. The move was seen as significant, given that the team largely ignored the position during both free agency and the draft, despite it being considered a major need.
Starting left tackle Trent Williams missed the final seven games of last season with an ankle injury and will turn 37 ahead of the 2025 campaign.
Although it was Humphries' agent who initially announced the reported agreement, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area now reports that no deal has been finalized between the two sides.
"But that contract was not finalized, and nothing appears imminent," Maiocco wrote.
Humphries, a former first-round pick by the Arizona Cardinals in 2015, joined the Kansas City Chiefs in November 2024. He appeared in just two games last season while returning from an ACL injury, allowing three sacks and 11 pressures in those limited appearances.
