San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan provided updates on his roster Wednesday, ahead of the team's first full practice of the week. With a pivotal Week 13 matchup against the Buffalo Bills looming, the spotlight remains on quarterback Brock Purdy, who sat out last Sunday's 38-10 loss to the Green Bay Packers due to a shoulder injury.
Shanahan announced that the 49ers plan to limit Purdy's participation on Wednesday as the quarterback continues to work his way back into the lineup.
As for how much Purdy will participate in practice, Shanahan simply stated, "We'll decide when we get out there."
Update:Purdy is not throwing during the Wednesday practice.
The 49ers are also managing injuries to several key players. Defensive end Nick Bosa (oblique, hip) and left tackle Trent Williams (ankle) are not expected to practice after missing the Packers game.
Running back Christian McCaffrey is receiving a rest day, while cornerback Deommodore Lenoir will sit out after sustaining a knee injury against Green Bay. Shanahan expressed optimism about Lenoir's availability for Sunday.
"He can't go today," Shanahan said. "But no, we're not ruling him out for this week. Hopefully, he'll be able to go tomorrow."
Offensive lineman Aaron Banks and defensive tackle Jordan Elliott remain in the NFL's concussion protocol, while offensive lineman Dominick Puni (shoulder) and defensive tackle Kevin Givens (groin) will be limited practice participants.
Linebacker Dre Greenlaw will have his practice window opened on Wednesday, marking his first participation since tearing his Achilles in February. Greenlaw is expected to be limited as he begins his return to action.
Wide receiver Jacob Cowing is out of the concussion protocol and should be a full participant in practice this week.
