The San Francisco 49ers are among the 25 teams kicking off their offseason workout program today. However, don't expect to see players facing off against each other on the practice field for the next couple of weeks. The program's early portion, dubbed "Phase One," spans two weeks and includes limited activities such as meetings, strength and conditioning, and physical rehabilitation only.

The second phase of the offseason program extends for three weeks and includes on-field workouts for individual or group instruction and drills. After that, teams can hold up to 10 days of organized team activities on the practice field.

As the 49ers continue to negotiate a contract extension for wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, it's important to note that all of these sessions are voluntary. A mandatory minicamp will be held in June. Live contact will be prohibited until the start of training camp in late July.

The 49ers will also host a rookie minicamp during the first or second weekend following the 2024 NFL Draft. Last year, the minicamp took place two weeks after the draft.

Below are the specific dates for the 49ers' offseason program:

  • First Day: April 15
  • OTA Offseason Workouts: May 20-21, May 23, May 28-29, May 31
  • Mandatory Minicamp: June 4-6

John Lynch explains 49ers' offseason improvement strategy

Jun 10

The San Francisco 49ers are excited about their offseason improvements, believing they've done enough to remain competitive and make another Super Bowl run. Of course, every NFL team is optimistic about its chances in June. They still have to go out and perform for 17 games, hoping they're competitive enough to earn a playoff spot. General manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan would prefer the NFL Draft take place before free agency, allowing the team to add rookie contributors first and then spend money to fill remaining needs. Unfortunately, free agency comes first, necessitating teams to consider the depth of specific positions in the draft while not knowing who they might acquire and trying to fill any potential gaps ahead of time. The 49ers had to

49ers' Brock Purdy: Full offseason has been beneficial

By David Bonilla
Jun 10

Brock Purdy's last full offseason came as a rookie in 2022. However, calling it a "full offseason" is misleading. He was buried on the San Francisco 49ers' depth chart, limiting his practice reps. Despite this, Purdy showed enough promise to earn a spot on the 53-man roster. Just months later, he took over the starting quarterback job and hasn't relinquished it since. Last offseason was crucial for Purdy's development. Unfortunately, he was recovering from surgery to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his right elbow. Purdy didn't get to throw to teammates until training camp, leaving some uncertainty about his effectiveness following such a significant injury. Purdy finished last season with a single-season franchise-record 4,280 passing yards,
