Nate Burleson explains why he's so fascinated by the 49ers in 2021

By David Bonilla

Nate Burleson is really curious to see what the Jacksonville Jaguars do this season. The Emmy-award-winning analyst feels they could be better than most anticipate, even with a new quarterback in rookie Trevor Lawrence. He believes they have some potential at other key spots. But that's not why you're here. Burleson also named another team that is almost flying under the radar — the San Francisco 49ers. Yes, everyone expects them to be much-improved compared to last season, when the squad managed just six wins. That may have been an outlier, though. The San Francisco 49ers officially announced the signing of linebacker James Burgess Jr. to a one-year deal. News of the impending signing was first reported last week by ESPN's Adam Schefter. The 49ers Communications staff provided the following rundown. Burgess (6-0, 230) originally entered the NFL after signing with the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent on May 5, 2016. As a rookie in 2016, he spent time on the Los Angeles Chargers, Baltimore Ravens, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Cleveland Browns practice squads. He later spent two seasons with the Browns (2017-18), while also playing for the New York Jets (2019) and the Green Bay Packers (2020).

That player of course is cornerback Richard Sherman, who has yet to find a team after playing with the 49ers the past three seasons. Whether the 49ers and Sherman decide to reunite for another go-round remains to be seen. But NFL.com columnist Jeffri Chadia thinks continuing the relationship would make sense for both sides as he listed the 49ers re-signing Sherman as one of five big moves NFL teams should make in the coming months. "As of right now, the best fit for Sherman remains the 49ers,"
