Brock Purdy faced significant scrutiny during the San Francisco 49ers' recent three-game losing streak, with some wondering if the quarterback had been overhyped during the team's 5-0 start to the season. Purdy used the bye week to recharge physically and mentally, gearing up for the challenges ahead.

"To be able to step away from the game, take a breather, understand where we're at, what we have to do, was huge for me to clear my mind and then come back excited for the second half and the stretch of football that we have to play, some good football that we have to play," Purdy said last week.

In response to the critics, Purdy delivered a stellar performance on Sunday, showcasing one of his best outings since being selected as the final overall pick in last year's draft. Completing 19 of 26 passes for 296 yards and three touchdowns, Purdy earned a career-high passer rating of 148.9.

"I think the sky's the limit for this guy," the quarterback's teammate, fullback Kyle Juszczyk, confidently said on the Ross Tucker Podcast. "He works his absolute tail off. He has such a great understanding of this offense. He's an incredible leader for such a young guy on a veteran team, too. I just have so much respect for him being able to step into a huddle and command that huddle and tell us what needs to be done."

Some recent criticism stemmed from Purdy's five interceptions during the three-game losing streak. That came after playing mistake-free football through the season's first five games.

Purdy could do no wrong against a Jaguars defense that has been very good at generating takeaways. Even his most questionable passing decision resulted in a touchdown to wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk.

"And I just think he's extreme. I think he's a really talented football player," Juszczyk continued. "I think he plays quarterback very, very well and at a really high level. And I think with the guys he's got around him, there's no limit to where this guy can go."

George Kittle says Brock Purdy lifts 49ers offense; Eager for Eagles game

By David Bonilla
Nov 28

Tight end George Kittle values the presence of Brock Purdy in the San Francisco 49ers' huddle. The quarterback has played efficiently, contributing to the team's three consecutive wins following a costly October slump. Purdy is on track to become the first 49ers quarterback to surpass 4,000 passing yards since Jeff Garcia did so in 2000. In fact, his projected 4,437 yards would set a franchise record. "I think I can speak for everybody on our offense, we're continually impressed with the things that Brock does all the time," Kittle told Jim Rome on Tuesday. "His consistency every single day, the relationship that he's built with all of our skilled players, all the guys that he gets the ball to, it's pretty amazing. And we all feel that [comfort] with

Steve Young says 49ers set at QB with Brock Purdy

By Marc Adams
Nov 25

Are the San Francisco 49ers finally set at QB? Since concussions forced Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young to retire following the 1999 season, the 49ers have been searching for that franchise signal-caller they believe would be the guy to lead the team to a sixth Super Bowl Championship. Jeff Garcia was the guy tasked with following Young. And while Garcia had a good career with the 49ers, complete with multiple Pro Bowls to his name, he was never considered the one who would lead the team back to the top. Alex Smith was drafted number one overall in 2005 to be that guy. He never really had much of a chance to show he could be, due mainly to a revolving door at offensive coordinator. Colin Kaepernick looked like he might be the guy when he led the 49ers to the

49ers' Kyle Shanahan hails Brock Purdy's continuous improvement: QB rarely makes same mistake twice

By Marc Adams
Dec 2

As the San Francisco 49ers prepare to take on the Philadelphia Eagles, all eyes will be on Brock Purdy to see how he handles returning to the place where he sustained his biggest injury yet, during the NFC Championship Game. Purdy has bounced back quicker than anyone expected him to. Initially, it was believed he would return sometime in September. But Purdy was ready for training camp. Head coach Kyle Shanahan recently sat down with Greg Papa, for their weekly discussion on NBC Sports Bay Area's "49ers Game Plan." Papa pointed out that Purdy is averaging 9.4 yards per attempt, not per completion, but per attempt in 2023. That average is easily the

Omar Ruiz talks Brock Purdy respect, 49ers-Eagles showdown

By David Bonilla
Nov 27

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has showcased elite-level performances this season. Nevertheless, some seem reluctant to give the second-year player the respect that many 49ers fans believe he deserves. NFL Network reporter Omar Ruiz joined KNBR on Monday morning and was asked if he senses a reluctance among the media to categorize Purdy among the upper echelon of NFL quarterbacks. "Yeah, and I think as long as he has a loaded Forty-Niner team around him, it'll probably always be like that unless he wins a Super Bowl," Ruiz responded on the "Murph and Mac" show. Ruiz drew parallels to former Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson's journey to being considered among the league's best. Initially, the team's outstanding defensive play
